'Mana' signifies the ancestral home of the Namboodiri (Kerala Brahmins). Poomully Mana, nestled in Kerala, stands as a living testament to a history spanning over 500 years. Once revered as a cultural hub in Kerala, Poomully Mana has produced experts in Ayurveda, Rig-veda, Yoga, Kalari (martial arts), Music, and various cultural arts, drawing visitors from across the globe seeking Ayurvedic treatments.

The Late Poomully Neelakandan Nampoothirippadu, known as Aramthampuran (the 6th lord of Poomully family), was born in 1921 and became a renowned figure. His education followed Namboodiri caste customs, covering Rig-veda recitation and routine poojas under his father's guidance. Aramthampuran's college education at Zomorin College Calicut was followed by extensive studies under Shri Cherukulapurath Krishnan Namboodiri of the illustrious Koodalloor Gurukulam System.

Jagad Guru Sree Sankaracharya recognized Thampuran's profound knowledge in Meemamsa & Vedantha. Aramthampuran's expertise in Ayurveda, Hasthyayurveda, Vishachikitsa, Balachikitsa, etc., surpassed description. Under Aramthampuran's chairmanship, Keraleeya Ayurveda Smajam established a research facility for diabetes & infertility treatments. He significantly contributed to the well-being of elephants in Guruvayoor, Thiruvambadi, and Paramekkavu Temples. The successful Kudipraveshika treatment (Rasayana Chikitsa) of the last century, in 1953 at Poomully Mana, took place under Aramthampuran's supervision.

Established in 2007/2008, the Poomulli Neelakandan Namboodirippad Memorial Ayurveda Medical College (PNNM Ayurveda Medical College) operates under the aegis of Sri Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri.

Poomully Aramthampuran's authority in Kalaripayattu, trained under the guidance of Shri Ananthan Nair and Shri Appu Nambiar, added to the family's legacy. His exceptional mastery of Yoga Sasthra, with instructions from Shri Narayanji, the Guru of Namboothiripad, further enhanced his multifaceted expertise. The legacy of Poomully Mana, as a heritage center for Ayurveda, Kalari, Yoga, and traditional art forms, is meticulously preserved by Aram Thampuran's family and disciples.

Renowned as the "Mana for Ayurveda," Poomully Mana continues the 'Poomully Way' of Ayurvedic treatments, as designed by Aramthampuran. The Kalarippayattu and Yoga center, established by Aramthampuran, still provides free regular training for nearby students. The legacy of Aramthampuran and other family members turned Poomully Mana into a renowned hub for Ayurveda and related subjects.

The "Mana" was a Namboothiri family residing in Ūrakam of Peruvanam village, Kerala, about 900 years ago. The legend recounts a Namboothiri from Peruvanam village visiting the Kamakshi Amman Temple in Kanchipuram. Goddess Kanchi Kamakshi, impressed by his devotion, decided to come to Kerala on his palm leaf umbrella. Placing the umbrella at home, it became too heavy to lift, revealing the goddess's presence. In a dream, she instructed him to build a temple, leave Ūrakam, and invoke her in an idol from a distant well. Following her guidance, he built the temple, leaving his possessions to it.

Poomully Mana, having grown into one of Kerala's richest Namboothiri families, was known for hospitality and 'anna-daanam' (charitable giving), as depicted in 'Aithihyamala,' an anthology describing families with glorious histories.

After Poomully Aram Thampuran's passing in 1997, his followers established the "POOMULLY ARAMTHAMPURAN SMARAKA TRUST" (P-A-S-T). This trust focuses on preserving the heritage of Poomully Aramthampuran and Poomully Mana, offering global Ayurvedic treatments, conducting research, and promoting traditional practices like Kalaripayattu and Yoga. Emphasis is given to preserving ancient texts, particularly those related to Ayurveda. Late Poomully Neelakandan Nampoothirippad, a legendary figure contributing significantly to Ayurveda, and Valloor Sankaran Namboodiri, known for treating snake bites, are part of the trust. The trust aims to continue their legacy through education and the promotion of ancient sciences and arts.

Ayurveda, originating in India, is an ancient life science practiced to attain complete health in the pursuits of human life: Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha, with Moksha (salvation) as the ultimate goal. The term 'Ayurveda' combines 'Ayu' (comprising Shareera - Body, Indria - Sensory organs, Satwa - Manas, and Atma - Soul) with 'Veda,' signifying authentic knowledge. In the Atharvaveda, Ayurveda is known as Upaveda. The Creator, Brahma, imparted this science to Daksha Prajapathi, Ashwini Kumar, and Indra for humanity's welfare, later reaching eminent sages like Bharadwaja, Dhanwanthari, Kashyapa, Nimi, establishing itself as Ashtangaayurveda.

The Ayurvedic lineage of Poomully Mana traces back to the Koodalloor Gurukula tradition, encompassing Sanskrit, Shasthras, Vedas, Tarka, Ayurveda & Yoga, and more. This tradition laid the foundation for the knowledge and practice that would be passed down through generations.

Dr. Devan Namboodiri serves as the Chief Consulting Physician, playing a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of Ayurvedic wisdom. He carries forward the rich tradition of healing and well-being. The collective expertise of these individuals represents a continuum of Ayurvedic knowledge, blending traditional practices with contemporary understanding. This lineage is dedicated to preserving and advancing the principles of Ayurveda for the well-being of individuals and society as a whole.
