At Mitra Hermitage Ayurveda Hospital, dining is an essential and integrated part of the healing journey, grounded in the core principles of Ayurveda. The retreat follows the belief that “You are what you eat,” offering a carefully supervised diet that aligns with each individual's *prakriti* (body constitution) and therapeutic needs. The Ayurvedic diet here is designed not only to nourish but also to restore the balance of the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—essential for maintaining physical and mental stability. Every meal is customized under the direct supervision of Dr. Anitha Mahesh, ensuring both therapeutic value and taste. Ingredients are sourced from local farmers practicing organic and safe-to-eat farming methods, and many vegetables and herbs are harvested from the retreat’s own organic garden.
Guests enjoy their meals at the Sunflower Dining Area, a common space located on the rooftop of the Middle Garden View rooms. This airy and serene setting offers a communal yet peaceful environment to relish freshly cooked food prepared according to doctors' instructions. The water used in cooking and drinking undergoes a five-stage purification process, ensuring it is microbe-free and safe, even from the taps. With a strong emphasis on purity, all oils and internal medicines used are rigorously tested for contamination, pesticides, and heavy metals before use. Through its commitment to purity, personalization, and the therapeutic value of food, Mitra Hermitage ensures that dining is a powerful extension of its holistic healing philosophy.

MoreAt Mitra Hermitage Ayurveda Hospital, the foundation of healing lies in authentic Ayurvedic practices that blend time-tested wisdom with personalized attention. With a philosophy centered on “Towards Holistic Health Care,” every treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation that evaluates the physical, mental, and social dimensions of each individual. The hospital is renowned for its expertise in Panchakarma therapy, which includes five core detoxification procedures: Vamana (emesis), Virechana (purgation), Snehavasthi (medicated oil enema), Kashayavasti (decoction enema), and Nasya (nasal administration). These therapies are performed strictly in accordance with classical Ayurvedic texts using high-quality, organically sourced medicines. This approach not only supports physical healing but also balances the Tridoshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—to restore overall well-being.
Mitra Hermitage also excels in treating chronic and complex conditions such as arthritis (including rheumatoid arthritis), spinal disorders, Hepatitis C (genotype 1 & 2), psoriasis, urinary incontinence in elderly women, stress-related disorders, and neurological issues like MS and spastic spinal paralysis. A special post-chemo detoxification programme is also available to remove residual toxins from chemotherapy, revitalizing the nervous system, enhancing immunity, and boosting vitality. The hospital relies on contamination-free, rigorously tested herbal formulations prepared by its parent institution, Sree Chithra Pharmacy, established in 1915. With meticulous quality control and patient safety protocols—including the world's first use of ETO-sterilized disposable vasti kits—Mitra Hermitage sets new standards in traditional Ayurvedic healthcare.
The dietary regimen at Mitra Hermitage is an integral part of treatment, supervised directly by Dr. Anitha Mahesh. Meals are curated to support the individual’s Prakriti (body constitution) and maintain Tridoshic balance. All ingredients are sourced from local farmers who follow organic practices, and many herbs, vegetables, and spices are grown within the hospital's own garden. The oils used for therapies and internal medicines undergo rigorous lab testing to ensure purity and freedom from heavy metals, pesticides, or contaminants. Embracing the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen (continuous improvement), Mitra Hermitage integrates Ayurvedic wisdom with modern safety, eco-conscious practices, and patient-centered care—making it not just a hospital, but a sanctuary of transformative healing
