Nikkis Nest

Nikkis Nest
Premium Hospital in a Resort Setting | Healing & Wellness Property
India / Kerala / Kovalam - Beach

Year of Establishment: 1996

Nikki’s Nest is a sea-side Ayurveda resort and Ayurveda Hospital in Chowara, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, positioned south of Kovalam beside an ancient fishing village and overlooking the Arabian Sea. The property has been involved in Ayurveda health and wellness tourism since 1996 and combines residential hospitality with physician-led Ayurvedic care. Its accommodation comprises 47 rooms across five categories, while the wider property includes two restaurants, a sea-facing yoga floor, swimming pool with sun deck, beauty parlour, gift corner and library. Kerala Tourism lists the establishment as an Ayurveda Centre, while the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers records Nikki’s Nest Ayurveda Hospital as an accredited AYUSH hospital with a scope covering Panchakarma and Yoga Treatments, with the current accreditation cycle valid from 30 November 2024 to 29 November 2027. The property also holds Ayur Diamond classification and has developed a distinctive model combining Ayurveda, dietary care, yoga, coastal surroundings and environmentally conscious practices.

Property Design and Landscape

Nikki’s Nest occupies a palm-fringed, gently sloping hillock descending towards the Arabian Sea, adjoining an old coastal fishing settlement. Its architecture is organised around open, breezy corridors, green lawns and independently positioned cottages, creating a relatively low-rise residential environment integrated with the coastal landscape. The setting provides views towards the Arabian Sea and the traditional activities of local fishermen operating catamarans along the coast. The property’s accommodation structures are presented in different architectural styles, reflecting its Kerala-oriented character rather than a single uniform resort design. The grounds include landscaped areas and access to the beachfront, while the yoga platform faces the ocean. The property also operates Duke’s Forest Lodge, a riverside plantation resort associated with its Ayurvedic production activities, situated beside the Kallar River and reserve forest on the fringes of the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary. The plantation supplies or supports the cultivation and sourcing of botanical materials used in the property’s Ayurvedic preparations.

Founders and Ayurvedic Heritage

Nikki’s Nest traces its Ayurveda and wellness identity to 1996, when the property began its long-term engagement with Ayurveda health and wellness tourism. Its heritage is closely connected with the Kerala tradition of herbal Ayurveda, particularly the use of locally available medicinal plants, classical Ayurvedic knowledge and preparations based predominantly on herbs and roots. The property maintains its own production of Ayurveda oils and treatment powders at Duke’s Forest Lodge, under the supervision of an Ayurveda doctor, using herbs and roots either freshly obtained from the plantation or sourced from reliable suppliers. It has specifically developed a policy of avoiding medicines based on heavy metals and minerals, favouring herbal preparations. Internal medicines such as tablets may be sourced from reputed licensed manufacturers with research and development facilities and recognised manufacturing standards, while physicians explain their ingredients, preparation and origin to guests. The property’s own culinary heritage also connects Ayurveda with traditional vegetarian Indian cooking, including a cookbook developed with culinary and Ayurvedic input.

Ayurveda Philosophy and Approach

Ayurveda at Nikki’s Nest is structured around an individualised understanding of health rather than a uniform treatment protocol. Its medical framework recognises the three Doshas—Vatha, Pitta and Kapha—and considers variations in their quantity, quality and function when assessing health and disease. Physicians examine the causes and development of a presenting condition together with signs and symptoms and a wider group of constitutional and environmental factors. These include Prakruthi (constitution), Bala (strength), Anala (digestive power), Vayas (age), Satva (mental state), Satmya (accustomed habits), Ahara (food and food habits), Desa (habitat) and Kala (season). The centre works with both Sodhana/Panchakarma and Samana approaches, with the choice influenced by the guest’s Dosha ratios, physical capacity, strength, body condition, individual requirements and physician assessment. Ayurveda is integrated with dietary care and yoga as part of the property’s broader health and wellness model.

Personalised Treatment Planning

Treatment planning at Nikki’s Nest is based on physician consultation and individual clinical assessment, with the therapeutic direction determined according to the guest rather than a fixed sequence applied to everyone. The Ayurvedic team assesses the presenting health concern alongside constitutional characteristics, Dosha balance, physical strength and capacity, age, digestive function, food habits and other relevant factors before determining the appropriate approach. Where Panchakarma or other Ayurvedic interventions are considered, the physician decides their suitability and direction according to the individual’s condition and therapeutic requirements. Current programme documentation further identifies Prakriti, Vikriti, Dosha balance, present health condition, age, physical strength and therapeutic objectives as factors considered when establishing an individual care plan. Treatment components can therefore vary between guests following the initial consultation and clinical evaluation. The personalised approach extends beyond immediate treatment to include attention to nutrition, lifestyle and sustainable health practices, allowing the stay to function as a structured period of Ayurvedic care rather than a standardised wellness package.

Treatment Programs

Nikki’s Nest offers a portfolio of Ayurvedic treatment and wellness programs covering preventive care, rejuvenation, purification and a range of chronic and lifestyle-related health concerns. Its programme portfolio includes Panchakarma, Rejuvenation, Body Purification, Weight Management, Back Pain, Cervical Spondylosis, Arthritis, Psoriasis, Neurodermatitis, Sleep Disturbances, Liver Disease, Ringworm and Fungal Infections, alongside other condition-focused Ayurvedic care. Program durations vary according to the treatment category, with 7-night and 14-night formats documented across the portfolio and longer stays available for selected programmes. The centre’s broader Ayurveda offering addresses conditions including chronic musculoskeletal complaints, skin disorders, insomnia, fibromyalgia and hormonal imbalances, while its Panchakarma and purification-oriented care focuses on Ayurvedic cleansing and rebalancing. Program selection and treatment intensity are determined following consultation and are adapted to the individual’s constitution, condition, physical strength and therapeutic requirements rather than being delivered as identical fixed protocols. Doctors and Wellness Experts

Nikki’s Nest maintains a dedicated Ayurvedic medical team supported by experienced therapists and wellness personnel. The Ayurveda department is supported by physicians with extensive professional experience, while the property has approximately 25 experienced Ayurvedic masseurs and 17 treatment rooms for its clinical operations. The medical team assesses guests and determines appropriate Ayurvedic care according to individual health conditions, constitution, strength and therapeutic objectives. The property’s broader wellness provision also incorporates Yoga and meditation, which complement its Ayurvedic care. Individual physicians associated with Nikki’s Nest include Dr Praveen and Dr Geetha, with published professional profiles describing long-standing Ayurveda experience and specialisation in areas including Panchakarma and condition-specific Ayurvedic care. The medical structure is supported by an Ayurveda kitchen and in-house preparation of selected oils and treatment powders under physician supervision. Detailed individual doctor biographies, qualifications and current appointment status should be maintained separately from this property-level reference. (nikkisnest.com)

Post Treatment Care

Nikki’s Nest approaches Ayurvedic care as a process extending beyond the immediate treatment period, with diet, lifestyle and health-management practices forming part of the broader therapeutic framework. Ayurvedic assessment considers factors such as constitution, Dosha balance, digestive capacity, food habits, age, strength, environment and lifestyle when establishing an appropriate health approach. Dietary guidance is therefore aligned with individual requirements and the physician’s assessment rather than being treated as a standard menu independent of treatment. The property’s Ayurveda model also places importance on helping guests understand the medicines and preparations used during their care, including their ingredients and preparation. Its integrated approach of Ayurveda, nutrition and yoga is intended to provide continuity between the residential treatment period and healthier everyday routines. Specific written post-treatment protocols, formal follow-up schedules and remote medical monitoring arrangements are not established as part of the property-level information currently retained and should therefore be documented separately if confirmed by the centre. (nikkisnest.com)

Accommodation

Nikki’s Nest provides 47 guest rooms distributed across five accommodation categories within its coastal resort setting. The accommodation is integrated into the landscaped property rather than being concentrated in a conventional multi-storey hotel structure, with cottages and other buildings positioned across the greenery of the hillside. The setting provides a residential environment suited to guests undertaking extended Ayurveda stays, with the Arabian Sea and surrounding coastal landscape forming an important part of the property’s character. Accommodation is located within convenient reach of the Ayurveda facilities, dining areas and wellness spaces, allowing residential guests to combine daily clinical care with the wider resort environment. The property is situated in Chowara, approximately 20 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Individual room categories, layouts and room-specific amenities are maintained as separate accommodation content and are not included in this property-level section. (nikkisnest.com)

Diet and Dining

Nikki’s Nest places Ayurvedic vegetarian nutrition within its overall treatment philosophy. Meals are prepared in coordination with the Ayurvedic physicians and are adapted according to the guest’s treatment requirements and dietary plan. The property operates two restaurants, including a vegetarian restaurant and a seafood restaurant; however, guests undergoing Ayurveda treatment are provided with vegetarian food as part of the therapeutic dining approach. The kitchen can accommodate a range of dietary requirements and restrictions, including requests relating to onions, garlic, tomato, aubergine, capsicum, pineapple, peanuts and white sugar, as well as gluten-free and vegan diets. Seafood may be available on request or for special occasions outside the prescribed therapeutic diet. Herbal juices and herbal tea form part of the Ayurveda stay offering. The dining approach is intended to connect everyday meals with Ayurvedic principles while accommodating individual dietary requirements identified during consultation. (nikkisnest.com)

Wellness Activities

The wellness environment at Nikki’s Nest combines Ayurveda with Yoga and meditation as complementary components of the guest experience. Yoga sessions are conducted six days a week, supporting the property's broader emphasis on physical balance, relaxation and wellbeing alongside medical Ayurvedic care. A dedicated sea-facing yoga floor provides an environment connected to the coastal landscape. Meditation is incorporated alongside the yoga offering, particularly within Ayurveda stays where these activities form part of the broader daily wellness routine. The property’s natural setting also contributes to the non-clinical aspect of the stay, with landscaped grounds, coastal views and access to the seaside providing opportunities for quiet relaxation between treatment sessions. The wellness activities are intended to complement, rather than replace, physician-directed Ayurvedic treatment and dietary care. (nikkisnest.com)

Facilities and Services

Nikki’s Nest combines residential hospitality with dedicated Ayurvedic healthcare infrastructure. Its principal Ayurveda facilities include 17 treatment rooms, an Ayurveda kitchen, a medical consultation structure and approximately 25 experienced Ayurvedic masseurs. The property also maintains facilities supporting leisure and general guest use, including a swimming pool with sun deck, sea-facing yoga floor, beauty parlour, library and gift corner. Its dining provision includes two restaurants, with separate vegetarian and seafood offerings. Ayurvedic oils and treatment powders are prepared at Duke’s Forest Lodge under physician supervision, forming part of the property’s wider Ayurvedic production infrastructure. The centre provides airport transfer arrangements as part of qualifying Ayurveda stays and is located approximately 20 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. The property’s healthcare infrastructure is also associated with an accredited Ayurveda hospital, with NABH accreditation covering Panchakarma and Yoga Treatments. (nikkisnest.com)

Sustainability and Guest Guidelines

Nikki’s Nest incorporates environmental and locally rooted practices into its Ayurveda and resort operations. Its Ayurvedic production system makes use of herbs and roots sourced from its own plantation environment and reliable external suppliers, with preparation carried out under medical supervision. Duke’s Forest Lodge is situated beside the Kallar River and on the fringes of the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, connecting the wider operation with Kerala’s forest and plantation landscape. The property’s Ayurveda medicine policy places emphasis on herbal preparations and states that it avoids medicines based on heavy metals and minerals. Where tablets are sourced externally, the centre uses reputed licensed manufacturers and provides guests with information about the ingredients and preparation. During Ayurvedic treatment, dietary restrictions form part of the therapeutic approach, with vegetarian food prescribed and individual dietary requirements accommodated where compatible with the treatment plan. Specific formal sustainability certifications, waste-management targets, energy metrics and accessibility policies require separate confirmation.

Guest Experience and Stay Approach

The Nikki’s Nest experience combines residential coastal hospitality with physician-led Ayurveda, creating a stay structured around treatment, dietary care, wellness activities and recovery within a natural setting. Guests stay in a landscaped seaside environment near Chowara’s traditional fishing community while receiving Ayurvedic care through a dedicated medical and therapy infrastructure. The approach is deliberately individualised: treatment selection follows physician consultation, while food, therapeutic intensity and supporting wellness activities are aligned with the guest’s health requirements. Ayurveda is complemented by Yoga and meditation six days a week, while the property’s sea-facing spaces, gardens, pool and coastal surroundings provide opportunities for relaxation outside treatment hours. The centre’s long-standing involvement in Ayurveda health and wellness tourism since 1996, together with its dedicated treatment rooms, Ayurvedic kitchen, physician-led preparations and accredited Ayurveda hospital, gives the stay a distinctly treatment-oriented character rather than that of a conventional leisure resort.

More about Nikkis Nest

Dining at Nikki’s Nest is closely integrated with its Ayurvedic treatment philosophy, with food regarded as an important component of the overall wellness experience. The property operates two sea-facing restaurants, each serving a distinct purpose. Hibiscus Restaurant is the vegetarian restaurant dedicated primarily to Ayurveda guests, while Orchid Restaurant provides seafood and other dining options for walk-in and live-in guests who are not following the prescribed Ayurvedic diet. This separation allows the centre to maintain the dietary requirements of guests undergoing treatment while also providing a broader dining option within the resort environment.

For Ayurveda guests, meals are prepared according to Ayurvedic dietary principles and are coordinated between the kitchen team and the centre’s Vaidyars. The treatment-oriented dining plan is predominantly vegetarian and forms part of the individualised Ayurveda stay. The food is not presented simply as conventional resort cuisine; meals are planned with consideration for the guest’s treatment requirements and Ayurvedic dietary needs. The centre combines traditional Indian cuisine with selected international favourites, allowing guests to experience familiar flavours while maintaining the principles of the prescribed diet. The Ayurveda kitchen is described as a wholesome food preparation area, and the daily meals form an integral part of the residential treatment experience.

Nikki’s Nest places particular emphasis on freshly prepared food and the quality of ingredients. Food is prepared from scratch without artificial colouring, artificial essence or preservatives. Ingredients are obtained from reliable and known sources, with additional produce and herbs available from the property’s family garden and Duke’s Forest Lodge, the centre’s plantation property. The kitchen also uses bronze cooking vessels, reflecting the property's preference for traditional food-preparation practices. The overall approach is intended to preserve freshness and maintain a natural, uncomplicated style of cooking appropriate to an Ayurveda-oriented environment.

The dining team can accommodate a range of individual dietary restrictions and food sensitivities when informed in advance. Specific restrictions that can be addressed include onions, garlic, tomato, aubergine, capsicum, pineapple, peanuts and white sugar. The kitchen can also provide gluten-free and vegan options, subject to advance notification and compatibility with the guest’s dietary requirements. This flexibility is particularly relevant for longer Ayurveda stays, where meals may need to be adjusted according to an individual's treatment plan or existing dietary restrictions.

The standard Ayurveda dining approach is vegetarian, and meat and meat products are not part of the regular food offering. Seafood is available at Orchid Restaurant and may occasionally be provided to Ayurveda guests on request and subject to physician approval or consultation, depending on the guest's treatment and dietary requirements. This distinction ensures that therapeutic dietary recommendations remain under the supervision of the Ayurvedic medical team rather than being overridden by general restaurant preferences.

Herbal juices and herbal tea form part of the Ayurveda stay experience and complement the centre’s food-based wellness approach. Meals are also structured around the wider Ayurvedic understanding of appropriate nutrition, with the kitchen working alongside the Vaidyars to provide food suitable for guests undergoing treatment. Rather than following a single menu for every visitor, the dining service is therefore connected to the individualised nature of the Ayurveda programme.

Nikki’s Nest also incorporates Kerala’s culinary and cultural traditions into its dining experience. Major Indian and Kerala festivals, including Diwali, Onam, Independence Day, Holi, Vishu, Christmas and New Year, are celebrated at the property with special festive food preparations and spreads. For live-in guests, these festive meals are provided without an additional surcharge. Such occasions provide guests undertaking extended wellness stays with an opportunity to experience local and Indian food traditions alongside their regular Ayurvedic diet.

The property also offers opportunities for guests to learn about food preparation through Ayurvedic and culinary cooking sessions, subject to the schedule and menu. Chef Raj has been associated with cooking demonstrations at Nikki’s Nest, introducing guests to aspects of the property's approach to preparing wholesome food. The centre has also developed Nikki’s Cookbook, created through the collaboration of Chef Raj, management members Maria Jacob and Nikita Jacob, with input from Ayurvedic physicians including Dr Praveen and Dr Geetha. The cookbook focuses on vegetarian recipes and includes information about the medicinal value traditionally associated with spices. A portion of proceeds from the cookbook supports initiatives connected with animal welfare, environmental protection and staff welfare.

Overall, dining at Nikki’s Nest is designed as an extension of its Ayurvedic residential care model, rather than simply as a conventional hotel food service. The combination of physician-coordinated vegetarian meals, fresh ingredients, traditional preparation practices, dietary flexibility, herbal beverages, sea-facing restaurants, Kerala and Indian culinary influences, and occasional cooking experiences creates a food environment closely aligned with the property's long-standing Ayurveda and wellness orientation.

Leisure at Nikki’s Nest is shaped by its seaside setting, tropical landscape and relaxed coastal environment, offering guests opportunities to unwind between wellness activities and treatments. The property is positioned on a landscaped hillside overlooking the Arabian Sea, with the grounds incorporating lawns, tropical vegetation and palm-fringed areas that create a naturally quiet setting. The resort's location near the traditional fishing village of Chowara adds a distinctly local character to the stay, with the surrounding coastal landscape and everyday life of the fishing community forming part of the visual experience.

A swimming pool and spacious sun deck provide the principal recreational facilities within the resort. The pool area offers a place for guests to relax outdoors and enjoy the tropical climate, while the sun deck provides space for sitting, reading and resting. The combination of the pool, open landscape and sea views allows guests to spend leisure time away from the treatment areas without needing to leave the property. The surrounding grounds also provide opportunities for quiet walks and informal outdoor relaxation.

The Arabian Sea and nearby beach are important elements of the leisure experience. Guests can enjoy the coastal environment for relaxation, sunbathing and enjoying the sea views. The property provides beach-related conveniences including beach umbrellas, deck facilities and towels. The sea conditions in this part of the coast can include strong waves, and the beach is therefore more suitable for enjoying the coastal surroundings, sitting by the sea and relaxing than for serious swimming. Guests are expected to follow local and property safety guidance when visiting the beach.

The property provides a compact library for guests seeking quieter indoor leisure. It offers an alternative to the more active outdoor areas and provides a suitable setting for reading and spending unhurried time during longer stays. The resort also has a gift corner and Spices/Gift Corner, where guests can browse items associated with Kerala and Indian culture, including organic plantation spices, Indian handicrafts, the property's recipe book and organic coconut oil. These retail spaces provide an opportunity to take home locally connected products and souvenirs.

Nikki’s Nest also incorporates cultural experiences and entertainment into the guest stay. Cultural programmes are organised on special occasions, allowing guests to experience elements of Kerala's cultural traditions while staying at the resort. The property celebrates major festivals and special occasions, contributing to a more immersive residential experience for guests who stay for several weeks. These activities are particularly relevant to international visitors seeking exposure to local culture in addition to their wellness stay.

For guests wishing to explore beyond the property, the tour and travel advisory service can assist with sightseeing arrangements and local excursions. Taxi and tuk-tuk transportation can also be arranged through the front desk. The property has historically supported excursions to attractions in and around Thiruvananthapuram and the surrounding coastal region, while Kerala Tourism information associated with Nikki’s Nest also identifies sightseeing tours and backwater excursions among the activities that can be arranged for guests.

The resort provides several practical services that contribute to a comfortable leisure stay, including currency exchange, laundry service, safe lockers and front-desk assistance. A tour and travel advisor can assist guests with local travel planning, while taxi and tuk-tuk arrangements provide access to nearby destinations. An astrologer consultation can also be arranged for interested guests, providing an additional cultural experience within the wider range of optional services.

A beauty clinic/beauty parlour is available for both men and women, with beauty-related services supported by Ayurveda-trained masseurs. This provides guests with an additional personal-care option during their stay without forming part of the property's core medical treatment offering. The resort also maintains a designated approach to smoking, with smoking prohibited inside guest rooms and designated areas provided for those who smoke.

Nikki’s Nest is set within sloping coastal terrain, and this physical character is important when considering leisure activities. The grounds include slopes and areas of firm or uneven ground, making the property particularly suited to adults who are comfortable moving around such terrain. Families travelling with children are advised to exercise additional parental consideration because of the landscape. Guests are also expected to observe appropriate cultural sensitivity when using public and shared spaces; the property encourages respectful and modest clothing, particularly outside designated leisure areas.

The resort's leisure environment also reflects its coastal and environmentally conscious character. The surrounding landscape provides opportunities to observe tropical vegetation and the local coastal setting, while the property has expressed an interest in environmental protection and animal welfare. Guests are encouraged to interact responsibly with the surrounding environment and local community. The property also discourages activities involving animal exploitation, reflecting its broader emphasis on responsible tourism.

Overall, leisure at Nikki’s Nest is intentionally quiet, nature-oriented and culturally connected rather than entertainment-heavy. The swimming pool and sun deck, Arabian Sea setting, beach access, gardens, library, gift and spice shop, cultural programmes, local excursions and practical guest services provide a balanced range of activities for guests during time outside their wellness schedule. The emphasis remains on relaxation, coastal scenery, cultural discovery and unhurried leisure, complementing the property's longer residential Ayurveda experience.

Nikki’s Nest has been providing Ayurveda health and wellness experiences since 1996, with its approach centred on traditional Ayurvedic principles, individualised physician assessment, therapeutic treatments, Ayurvedic nutrition and complementary Yoga and meditation. The property describes Ayurveda as a traditional herbal healing system that considers the interaction of the three Doshas—Vatha, Pitta and Kapha and their relationship with the body, mind and overall wellbeing. Treatment is therefore not presented as a single standardised procedure for every guest; the Ayurvedic physicians assess the individual's constitution, condition, strength, digestive capacity, age, food habits and other relevant factors before determining an appropriate therapeutic approach.

The Ayurveda department is supported by a dedicated team of physicians, approximately 25 experienced masseurs and 17 treatment rooms, together with a wholesome Ayurveda kitchen and regular Yoga provision. The doctors at Nikki’s Nest are described as having 19–26 years of experience in the service of Ayurveda and wellbeing. The centre's treatment infrastructure is therefore designed for residential Ayurveda stays in which medical consultation, daily treatment, dietary care and supporting wellness activities form an integrated routine.

Ayurvedic Assessment and Individualised Treatment

A central feature of the Nikki’s Nest approach is physician-led individual assessment. The centre's Ayurvedic description states that consultations can involve observation, physical examination and verbal interaction, followed by consideration of the causes and development of the presenting condition. The physicians may assess factors including Nidana (causes or aetiology), Praagrupa (premonitory symptoms), Lakshana (specific signs and symptoms), Upasaya (diagnostic assessment) and Samprapti (pathogenesis). Additional considerations include the guest's Prakruthi or constitution, Bala or physical strength, Anala or digestive capacity, Vayas or age, Satva or mental state, Satmya or accustomed habits, Ahara or food and dietary habits, season and habitat.

Following consultation, the physicians determine whether the guest is more appropriately suited to Sodhana or Samana therapy, or to a combination of treatments appropriate to the individual's condition. Nikki’s Nest specifically states that treatment selection takes account of Dosha ratios, the guest's capacity or strength, body condition, individual needs and physician recommendations. This individualised approach is also applied to the intensity and selection of individual therapies rather than treating every guest according to an identical sequence.

Sodhana and Panchakarma

Nikki’s Nest practises both Sodhana, including Panchakarma-oriented therapy, and Samana approaches. In the centre's Ayurvedic framework, Sodhana is intended to eliminate aggravated Doshas from the body, while Samana seeks to reduce aggravated Doshas without elimination. The classical Sodhana approaches described by Nikki’s Nest include Vamana, Virechana, Basthi/Vasthi, Nasyam and Raktamokshana/Raktamosham. The selection and application of these approaches are dependent on medical consultation, the guest's condition and the physician's recommendations rather than being automatically included for every Ayurveda guest.

The centre's treatment portfolio includes Panchakarma and condition-focused Ayurveda programmes, with treatment plans structured around individual assessment. Nikki’s Nest's full-board Ayurveda stay specifically includes doctor consultation and daily Ayurveda treatment according to the physician's regime, together with Ayurvedic dietary provisions, herbal beverages and Yoga six days a week. This establishes the medical consultation as the starting point for determining the appropriate treatment routine.

Ayurvedic Therapies and Treatments

Nikki’s Nest provides a broad range of traditional Ayurvedic therapies. Abhyangam is a whole-body therapeutic oil massage using specifically selected lukewarm herbal oils, generally conducted for around 45–60 minutes depending on body condition and physician instructions. Dhara involves the controlled pouring of herbal oils or medicated liquids over the forehead for approximately 45–90 minutes and is selected according to the individual's condition. Kizhi uses herbal leaves or powders prepared in boluses together with medicated oils and is described by the centre in relation to musculoskeletal conditions including osteoarthritis, arthritis with swelling, spondylosis, sports injuries, lumbago and sciatica.

Sirovasthi involves retaining medicated oil on the head using a specially fitted cap for a prescribed period and is selected according to individual condition and physician instructions. Udwarthanam uses herbal powders in a specific full-body massage technique and is associated by the centre with weight management, muscle strengthening, skin tightening and cholesterol control. Nasyam involves administering medicated oil or herbal preparations through the nostrils and is described for conditions including migraine, sinusitis, chronic cold, chest congestion, cervical spondylosis and facial palsy.

The treatment repertoire also includes Ksheera Dhoomam, Pizhichil, Njavara Kizhi, Vasthi and Tharpanam. Ksheera Dhoomam uses steam generated from medicated milk and is described in relation to facial paralysis, speech disorders, cervical spondylosis and certain neurological or spastic conditions. Pizhichil involves the rhythmic application of lukewarm medicated oil and is used according to the individual's condition, including in relation to stiff joints and limbs and Vata-dominant conditions. Njavara Kizhi is a traditional Kerala therapy using warm medicated rice boluses and is described in connection with nervous-system disorders, chronic rheumatic conditions, joint pain and muscular nourishment. Vasthi is an important Panchakarma-associated therapy, while Tharpanam is an eye-focused treatment involving medicated ghee.

Ayurvedic Medicines and In-House Preparations

Nikki’s Nest places particular emphasis on herbal Ayurvedic preparations. The property manufactures its own Ayurveda oils and treatment powders at Duke’s Forest Lodge, its plantation property, under the supervision of an Ayurvedic physician. According to the centre, herbs and roots used in these preparations are obtained from reliable sources and are also freshly collected from the plantation. This gives the centre greater control over the ingredients used in selected treatment preparations.

The centre states that its Ayurvedic approach favours herbal and plant-based preparations rather than medicines based on heavy minerals and metals. Internal medicines such as tablets may nevertheless be sourced externally when required as part of a physician's treatment regime. Nikki’s Nest states that such medicines are obtained from reputed licensed companies with research and development facilities and appropriate manufacturing credentials. The centre also emphasises transparency: physicians explain the medicines used during treatment, and information concerning the manufacturer, ingredients and preparation method is made available to guests. Guests are encouraged to raise concerns or discomfort relating to oils, powders or medicines directly with the physicians.

Ayurveda Treatment Infrastructure

The treatment infrastructure consists of 17 treatment rooms, supported by the centre's Ayurvedic physicians and approximately 25 experienced masseurs. The treatment environment is designed for residential Ayurveda care, allowing guests undertaking multi-day programmes to receive their prescribed treatments within the property. The Ayurveda kitchen operates alongside the clinical provision, linking the dietary component of the stay with the physician-directed treatment plan. The centre also produces selected oils and treatment powders through its plantation-based facility at Duke’s Forest Lodge.

The Ayurveda experience is therefore structured around several interconnected components: initial medical consultation, individual treatment planning, daily therapeutic care, Ayurvedic food, herbal preparations, Yoga and meditation. The centre's Ayurveda full-board offering specifically identifies doctor consultation, daily treatment according to the doctor's regime, herbal juice, herbal tea, three meals, Yoga six days a week and airport transfers as components of its residential Ayurveda holiday.

Yoga

Yoga is an established complementary component of the Nikki’s Nest Ayurveda experience. The centre describes Yoga and meditation as complementary to Ayurvedic treatment and wellness, with the practice intended to support relaxation, strength, flexibility and balance. Sessions incorporate traditional elements including breathing exercises, physical postures and relaxation techniques, with an emphasis on the relationship between body and mind.

Nikki’s Nest conducts separate morning Yoga sessions for experts, moderate-level practitioners and beginners. The published schedule is 06:45–08:00, 08:15–09:30 and 10:00–11:00, from Monday to Saturday. The sessions are therefore organised to accommodate different levels of experience rather than assuming that all residential guests have the same Yoga background. Sunday mornings are kept free from scheduled Yoga, providing both guests and the Yoga instructor with a weekly break.

The Yoga practice takes place on a sea-facing Yoga platform, giving the sessions an open coastal setting overlooking the ocean. The nearby Hindu temple contributes to the atmosphere of the location. Yoga is positioned as a supportive wellness practice within the wider Ayurveda stay rather than as an independent replacement for physician-directed treatment.

Meditation

Nikki’s Nest incorporates meditation alongside its regular Yoga programme. A brief meditation session is scheduled from 11:00–11:30, following the morning Yoga programme. The centre presents meditation as part of its broader approach to relaxation and the integration of body and mind. Together with Yoga, it provides a non-pharmacological wellness component that complements the physician-directed Ayurvedic treatment routine.

Ayurvedic Diet and Therapeutic Nutrition

Nutrition forms an important part of the treatment environment at Nikki’s Nest. Ayurveda guests receive vegetarian food prepared according to Ayurvedic principles, with the kitchen coordinating with the Vaidyars so that dietary provisions can support the guest's treatment requirements. Herbal juice and herbal tea are also included within the centre's full-board Ayurveda holiday offering. The dietary component is therefore integrated with medical care rather than being treated solely as conventional hotel catering.

The centre's wider food philosophy also reflects its preference for wholesome vegetarian cuisine, which it connects with Ayurveda, regular morning Yoga and meditation. Dietary requirements and restrictions can be accommodated where notified in advance, while seafood is available separately and may be provided to Ayurveda guests only when appropriate and subject to physician consultation.

Overall Ayurveda and Wellness Approach

The treatment philosophy at Nikki’s Nest is based on combining traditional Ayurvedic medical assessment, individualised treatment, herbal preparations, therapeutic massage and procedures, Ayurvedic nutrition, Yoga and meditation within a residential coastal setting. The centre's stated approach gives particular importance to Dosha assessment, individual body condition and physician recommendations, while its treatment infrastructure supports extended stays involving daily therapeutic care. Its use of selected in-house herbal oils and powders, plantation-sourced ingredients, dedicated treatment rooms and an experienced therapist team further supports this integrated model.

The result is a treatment-oriented Ayurveda stay in which clinical consultation and personalised therapy remain central, while Yoga, meditation, nutrition and the surrounding environment provide complementary elements of the overall wellness experience. Nikki’s Nest has maintained this Ayurveda and wellness orientation since 1996, with its present model combining traditional Kerala Ayurveda practices with structured residential treatment and wellness services.

The Program provides an extended setting for restoration, relaxation, renewed energy and improved overall wellbeing, while encouraging healthier habits that can be maintained beyond the stay. Note: All treatments and program components are personalised following the initial consultation with the retreat's Ayurveda doctor and the guest's health condition. Therapy protocols may vary accordingly.

I stayed at Nikki's Nest for 7 days with a group of 9 other women on a yoga retreat with our own yoga teacher. Immediately we felt welcomed as we arrived. The whole Ayurvedic experience was new to us so I have nothing to compare it to, but the treatments were an eye-opener as they are totally different to anything we might experience in the west. We were shocked we were stark naked for the treatments until we found out we could ask for a muslin thong/cloth which helped some of us more shy people feel a bit more relaxed. The treatments were amazing, totally relaxing for the nervous system. We practised morning yoga in the space by the pool which was a great area, but the pool area is a little 'tired'. Evening yoga was in the yoga shala which is a beautiful space. The rooms are also a little tired, our air conditioner broke but staff came immediately to fix it. The food was fantastic, but, after also reading other reviews, there was chocolate lava cake etc. which must have been full of sugar and not really in the Ayurvedic diet? The curries, breads and staff excellent. We also met Nikki who was very gracious and welcoming. One evening we enjoyed some traditional dancing which was very well presented in the garden. I did attend a yoga class with the resident teacher and found I may have injured myself if I wasn't a qualified teacher myself and knew how to choose a different option to some of the poses. The teacher wasn't very welcoming and even turned a friend away from one class as she had eaten 2 hours before the class and not left a 3 hour gap. I felt this was a bit harsh at a resort as opposed to a strict yoga training center. We were woken at 5.30am from chiming bells at the temple below but to be honest we had to be awake soon after for our morning yoga class so this didn't bother us too much. The temple at the bottom of the road is creating a lot of traffic and noise, but the statue of Shiva is incredible, as is the cave below with Goddess sculptures in the cave walls. There are some shops up the road and quite a few of our group went to the tailor and had a number of items made! All in all we came away with wonderful memories and feeling totally relaxed.

I spent 9 divine days in this place of healing. The medical team is competent, the follow-up is very good and the care adapted to each person. I can testify that a good Ayurvedic treatment heals in a different way than in the West, and that the results are visible! The place is located by the ocean, you can walk there or occasionally take a small excursion around. Special mention to the chef in the kitchen who delights guests with lots of variety. I recommend this place, trying if possible to stay there at least 15 days.
