India / Kerala / Varkala - Beach

Year of Establishment: 2019

Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat is a traditional Ayurveda healing centre set atop the dramatic cliffs of Varkala in Kerala, overlooking a 150-foot drop to the Arabian Sea with nearly 200 feet of direct beach frontage and expansive 180-degree ocean views. Spread across approximately 2.5 acres of coastal greenery, the retreat is surrounded by open lawns, landscaped gardens and a quiet coconut grove that naturally supports rest and inward focus. Designed as a small, intimate property, Malika follows a doctor-led approach to Ayurveda, where personalised treatments, structured daily routines, therapeutic diets and yoga form the core of the experience. With simple, comfortable accommodation, Ayurveda-focused dining, access to the nearby Aaliyirakkam Beach and a calm, non-commercial atmosphere, the retreat is best known for offering intensive, authentic Ayurvedic healing in a serene coastal setting rather than a leisure-driven resort stay.

Property Design and Landscape

The retreat is spread across gently contoured coastal land, designed to remain in harmony with its natural surroundings. Open lawns, shaded garden pathways and clusters of coconut trees create a sense of space and quiet throughout the property. Its cliffside setting allows uninterrupted views of the Arabian Sea, while the proximity to Aaliyirakkam Beach offers guests access to a quieter stretch of Varkala’s coastline.

The layout remains simple and functional, with accommodation, treatment areas and common spaces arranged to support ease of movement and a calm, unhurried pace of life aligned with the healing process.

Ayurveda Philosophy and Approach

Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat follows a traditional and focused approach to Ayurveda, where healing is approached as a structured and personalised process. The emphasis is on identifying root causes of imbalance and addressing them through a combination of therapies, diet, and lifestyle adjustments.

The retreat maintains a clinical orientation, supported by two in-house Ayurvedic doctors and a team of highly trained therapists. Treatments are intensive in nature, typically involving two therapy sessions per day of approximately 75 minutes each. These therapies are supported by yoga, rest and dietary regulation, forming an integrated system aimed at detoxification, balance and long-term well-being.

Personalised Treatment Planning

Each guest’s journey begins with a detailed consultation on the day of arrival, where doctors assess health concerns, body constitution and dosha imbalances. Based on this evaluation, a personalised treatment plan is created, including therapies, dietary guidelines and lifestyle recommendations.

Guests are assigned two treatment slots per day, with exact timings and therapies determined by the doctor and adjusted regularly based on the body’s response. This flexible and responsive approach ensures that treatments remain aligned with individual healing progress.

Accommodation

The retreat offers a limited number of rooms across three categories, each designed with simplicity and comfort in mind. Garden View Rooms provide cosy, functional spaces suited for guests focused on treatment. Garden View Cottages, located in detached units behind the main building, offer a similar layout with added privacy.

Sea View Rooms feature more spacious interiors along with private balconies that open to expansive views of the Arabian Sea and surrounding greenery. Across all categories, the design remains minimal and uncluttered, supporting rest and recovery rather than luxury.

Diet and Dining

Cuisine at Malika is an integral part of the therapeutic process. Meals are primarily vegetarian and prepared according to Ayurvedic principles, with nutrition prescribed individually by the doctors based on each guest’s condition and treatment plan.

From March to October, meals are served as portion-controlled dishes aligned with therapeutic requirements, while from October to March, a buffet-style service may be followed depending on the treatment approach. In certain cases, items such as meat, seafood, eggs or caffeine may be permitted only if advised by the doctor, though dietary discipline remains central to the healing process.

Wellness Activities

Daily life at the retreat follows a structured rhythm centred around treatments, rest and supportive practices. The day typically begins early, with sunrise yoga sessions starting around 5:45 am, helping to prepare the body and mind for the therapies that follow.

Yoga and relaxation practices are designed to complement Ayurvedic treatments, improving flexibility, circulation and mental clarity. The natural setting, combined with a slower pace of life, allows guests to engage more deeply with the process of healing.

Facilities and Services

The retreat offers essential facilities that support both treatment and comfort, including a dedicated Ayurveda Centre, consultation spaces and yoga areas. Additional services include laundry, foreign currency exchange, safe locker facilities, doctor on call and complimentary Wi-Fi in designated areas.

Guests also have access to a library, basic in-room amenities such as tea and coffee making facilities, and beach access. A Russian translator is available during consultations, making the retreat accessible to international guests.

Guest Experience and Stay Approach

Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat is designed for guests seeking a structured and disciplined approach to healing. The experience is centred around treatments, prescribed diets and daily routines, with limited emphasis on leisure or entertainment.

The intensity of the therapies, combined with early mornings and dietary regulations, makes the retreat particularly suitable for those addressing chronic conditions such as back pain, skin disorders, digestive issues, anxiety and stress, or for those seeking a deeper detoxification experience.

The retreat follows a strict Ayurvedic routine, and guests are expected to adhere to treatment schedules, dietary guidelines and lifestyle recommendations provided by the doctors. Meals are customised and may involve restrictions as part of the therapeutic process.

Each guest undergoes two treatment sessions daily, with timings and therapies determined after consultation and adjusted as needed. The overall experience is focused on healing rather than recreation, and the property maintains a quiet, disciplined environment throughout.

Set against the unique cliffside landscape of Varkala, Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat offers a space where traditional Ayurveda is practiced in a focused and authentic manner. With its emphasis on personalised care, structured routines and natural surroundings, the retreat provides an environment suited for those seeking meaningful and sustained healing.

More about Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat

Dining at Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat is an integral part of the healing process, centred around its dedicated Ayurveda restaurant where every meal is designed as a form of therapy. The restaurant serves only diet-based cuisine, with menus and dietary guidelines strictly prescribed by the in-house Ayurveda doctors to support each guest’s individual treatment plan. Food is approached not merely as nourishment, but as an essential component of healing, carefully aligned with the principles of classical Ayurveda and the specific therapeutic goals of the guest.

The culinary experience follows a personalised approach, with meal plans tailored according to body constitution, dosha balance and health condition. Wholesome vegetarian dishes form the foundation of the menu, using fresh, locally sourced and organic ingredients that support digestion, detoxification and vitality. Non-vegetarian food, seafood and eggs are generally not recommended or served to guests undergoing Panchakarma or serious Ayurvedic treatments, and tea and coffee are usually avoided as part of the therapeutic discipline. However, under medical supervision and in select situations, limited exceptions may be permitted if the doctor considers it appropriate for the guest’s condition.

For guests staying on longer programs of more than fourteen nights, the retreat offers a complimentary traditional Kerala-style Sadhya meal on the final day, marking the completion of the healing journey. On this special occasion, the Sadhya may include selected fish items as part of the farewell dining experience, symbolising a gentle return to normal dietary patterns.

Leisure at Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat unfolds within a setting defined by its dramatic location atop Varkala’s 150-foot cliff, overlooking the Arabian Sea. Spread across 2.5 acres of coastal greenery, the property is framed by open lawns, landscaped gardens and a quiet coconut grove that naturally support rest and reflection. From its elevated position above nearly 200 feet of beach frontage, the retreat offers uninterrupted 180-degree views of the sea, with constant ocean breezes and a sense of openness that carries through the entire stay.

The environment encourages a slower, more mindful pace of living. Guests may spend time walking through the gardens, sitting beneath the shade of coconut trees or simply observing the shifting colours of the sea from balconies and open spaces. With a limited number of rooms and cottages, the retreat maintains a quiet and private atmosphere where leisure remains understated and closely aligned with the overall healing experience.

Beyond the property, the retreat’s location allows access to the nearby coastline, including Aaliyirakkam Beach and Varkala South Beach, both within a short distance. Guests may choose to explore the surroundings through optional experiences such as backwater cruises, visits to Trivandrum or other local excursions arranged on request. Seasonal activities along the coast may include water sports such as paragliding and scuba diving, while occasional cultural programs introduce elements of Kerala’s traditional arts. These experiences remain optional, allowing guests to balance periods of rest with gentle exploration as suited to their pace of stay.

The Ayurveda Centre at Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat forms the core of its healing approach, rooted in the principles of classical Ayurveda and guided by a disciplined, treatment-focused philosophy. The centre follows a traditional system where healing is approached as a gradual and structured process, relying on the combined influence of therapies, diet, routine and time. Emphasis is placed on restoring balance through consistent treatment rather than offering isolated or short-term solutions, allowing the body to respond naturally and sustainably.

Under the supervision of two in-house Ayurvedic doctors, each guest undergoes a detailed consultation on the day of arrival. Based on this assessment, a personalised treatment plan is created, taking into account individual health concerns, body constitution and dosha imbalances. The retreat places a strong focus on Panchakarma and related therapies, with guests typically receiving two treatment sessions per day, each lasting approximately 75 minutes. The exact nature, sequence and timing of treatments are determined by the doctors and may be adjusted regularly depending on the guest’s response and progress. Treatments are carried out by a team of 14 trained therapists, ensuring consistency and precision throughout the program.

Diet is considered an integral part of the therapeutic process, with meals prescribed individually by the doctors to support digestion and recovery. Depending on the season and treatment requirements, meals may be served as portion-controlled dishes or in a buffet format, while maintaining alignment with Ayurvedic principles. Through this integrated approach, the centre maintains a focus on steady and sustained healing, where the benefits of treatment continue to develop over time beyond the duration of the stay.

Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat is particularly known for its structured Ayurvedic approach to managing chronic and lifestyle-related conditions across musculoskeletal, digestive, metabolic, skin and nervous system health. 14 Nights Renal Disorders Treatment Program

The Renal Disorders Treatment Program at Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat is a specialised Ayurvedic healing program designed to support individuals experiencing various kidney and urinary system disorders, including impaired kidney function, chronic renal conditions, fluid retention, and metabolic imbalances affecting the kidneys. In Ayurveda, renal disorders are associated with disturbances in the Mutravaha Srotas (urinary channels), along with imbalances of the doshas and the accumulation of toxins (Ama), which interfere with the body’s ability to properly filter and eliminate waste. The program follows a holistic and root-cause-oriented approach that focuses on detoxification, restoration of kidney function, balancing metabolism, and strengthening the body’s natural filtration mechanisms. The treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation with the Ayurvedic physician, who evaluates the guest’s body constitution, kidney function, lifestyle habits, and overall metabolic condition in order to create a personalised therapeutic plan. The program integrates Ayurvedic detoxification therapies, Panchakarma procedures, internal herbal medicines, physician-guided dietary regulation, and supportive lifestyle practices to improve circulation, reduce toxin accumulation, and support the rejuvenation of kidney tissues. Therapies such as Virechanam (therapeutic purgation), Basti (medicated enema therapy), herbal applications, and rejuvenative Rasayana therapies may be incorporated according to the individual’s condition and treatment requirements. The program also emphasises the importance of dietary correction, hydration balance, yoga, and stress management, which together help reduce metabolic strain on the kidneys and support long-term renal health. Carefully selected Ayurvedic herbs traditionally used in kidney care are prescribed to support detoxification, fluid regulation, and tissue nourishment. Through this integrated healing approach, the program aims to improve kidney function, enhance vitality, reduce discomfort associated with renal disorders, and promote overall systemic balance and wellbeing.

Panchakarma

A Panchakarma retreat is a deeply transformative Ayurvedic detox and healing program designed to eliminate accumulated toxins, restore internal balance, and rejuvenate the body and mind. Rooted in the ancient science of Ayurveda, Panchakarma meaning “five actions” is a medically guided process that works at a cellular level to remove toxins (Ama), strengthen digestion (Agni) and balance the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Unlike modern detox programs or wellness retreats that focus only on relaxation, a Panchakarma retreat is a structured therapeutic process aimed at long-term health, disease prevention and complete physiological reset. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, the body is constantly exposed to stress, processed foods, environmental pollutants and irregular routines. These factors weaken digestion and lead to the accumulation of Ama, a toxic byproduct that obstructs bodily channels and disrupts normal functioning. Over time, this imbalance manifests as fatigue, weight gain, poor digestion, hormonal issues, joint pain, skin disorders, and mental stress. A Panchakarma retreat addresses these root causes by mobilising and eliminating toxins from deep tissues, allowing the body to restore its natural intelligence and healing capacity. A traditional Panchakarma treatment follows a carefully structured three-stage process to ensure safety and effectiveness. The first stage, known as preparation (Purva Karma), involves therapies such as Snehana (internal and external oiling) and Swedana (herbal steam therapy), which help loosen and mobilise toxins from the tissues. The second stage, the main detox phase (Pradhana Karma), includes specialised treatments such as Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Basti (medicated enemas), Nasya (nasal detox), and in specific cases, Vamana or Raktamokshana. These therapies are selected based on individual diagnosis and are performed under the supervision of qualified Ayurvedic doctors. The final stage, rejuvenation (Paschat Karma), focuses on restoring strength, rebuilding immunity, and stabilising the body through herbal medicines, a specialised Ayurvedic diet, and lifestyle guidance. A Panchakarma retreat offers a wide range of benefits that go beyond physical detoxification. It improves digestion and metabolism, supports sustainable weight management, enhances immunity, reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep quality, and promotes clearer skin and increased energy levels. One of the most profound effects of Panchakarma is its impact on mental clarity and emotional balance. As toxins are eliminated from the body, the nervous system becomes more stable, allowing the mind to shift from a state of stress to a state of calm and focus. Many individuals experience a deep sense of reset, both physically and mentally, after completing a Panchakarma program. When choosing a Panchakarma retreat, location plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of the treatment. A Panchakarma retreat in Kerala, India is widely considered the most authentic and effective option due to its strong Ayurvedic lineage, ideal tropical climate, and access to medicinal herbs. Kerala is home to highly trained BAMS-certified Ayurvedic doctors who follow classical treatment protocols, ensuring a medically accurate and personalised approach. The warm and humid climate of Kerala supports detoxification by opening the body’s channels, making treatments more effective compared to colder regions. For this reason, Kerala has become the global centre for authentic Panchakarma therapy. Across India, Panchakarma retreats are available in various formats, ranging from traditional Ayurvedic hospitals to luxury wellness resorts. While India offers a wide range of options, the quality and authenticity of treatment can vary significantly, making it important to choose centres that provide personalised care and medical supervision. A Panchakarma retreat in Sri Lanka offers a similar tropical environment and is emerging as a destination for Ayurvedic healing, often combining traditional therapies with a more relaxed retreat experience. Meanwhile, a Panchakarma retreat in Bali is popular for its scenic beauty and luxury wellness offerings, although treatments may be adapted and may not always follow classical Ayurvedic protocols as practised in India. A typical Panchakarma retreat includes an initial consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, personalised treatment planning, daily therapies, herbal medications, and a specialised Ayurvedic diet designed to support detoxification. Many retreats also incorporate yoga, meditation, and lifestyle guidance to enhance overall well-being. The duration of a Panchakarma program can vary depending on individual health goals, with 7-day programs offering mild detox, 14-day programs providing moderate cleansing, and 21 to 28-day programs delivering deep detoxification and long-term healing benefits. For chronic conditions and deeper imbalances, longer programs are generally recommended. Choosing the right Panchakarma retreat is essential for achieving safe and effective results. A genuine retreat should offer qualified Ayurvedic doctors, personalised treatment protocols, daily medical supervision, authentic Panchakarma therapies, and a structured dietary plan. It is important to understand that Panchakarma is not a spa treatment or a relaxation package—it is a medical healing process rooted in Ayurvedic science. A Panchakarma retreat is ultimately an investment in long-term health and well-being. It is ideal for individuals seeking to address chronic health issues, improve digestion, reduce stress, enhance immunity, or simply reset the body and mind. By removing deep-rooted toxins and restoring balance, Panchakarma allows the body to function optimally and maintain a state of natural harmony. Whether you choose a Panchakarma retreat in Kerala, India, Sri Lanka, or Bali, the experience offers a powerful opportunity to reconnect with your health, restore vitality, and experience true holistic healing.

Rasayana Chikitsa (Rejuvenation Therapy)

Rasayana Chikitsa occupies a unique place in Ayurveda as the branch dedicated to rejuvenation, regeneration, and longevity science. While commonly understood as a therapy, Rasayana is traditionally described as a discipline that enhances the quality of life by improving tissue integrity, cognitive function, and resistance to ageing. It operates through specialised protocols that support the renewal of body tissues (Dhatus) and optimise the flow of nutrients across physiological systems. One of the defining aspects of Rasayana therapy is its focus on tissue nourishment at successive levels. Ayurveda explains that the body is sustained through a chain of tissue formation—from plasma (Rasa) to reproductive tissue (Shukra). When this chain is disrupted, degeneration, fatigue, and premature ageing begin to appear. Rasayana Chikitsa works by improving this tissue transformation process, ensuring that each layer is properly nourished and regenerated. A key concept associated with Rasayana is Ojas, considered the essence of all bodily tissues and the foundation of immunity, vitality, and mental stability. Depletion of Ojas is linked to chronic fatigue, low immunity, emotional instability, and reduced resilience. Rasayana therapies are designed to rebuild Ojas through targeted herbal formulations, dietary regulation, and restorative treatments that strengthen both physical and psychological endurance. Rasayana Chikitsa is also closely connected to age management in Ayurveda. Classical texts describe different stages of life and recommend Rasayana interventions to slow down degeneration and maintain optimal function. This makes it particularly relevant for individuals seeking healthy ageing, improved cognitive performance, and sustained energy levels rather than symptomatic treatment alone. There are different approaches within Rasayana therapy, including Kutipraveshika Rasayana (a highly controlled and intensive rejuvenation protocol conducted in isolation) and Vatatapika Rasayana (a more practical, lifestyle-integrated approach suitable for retreat settings). While the former is rarely practised in modern environments due to its strict requirements, the latter forms the foundation of most Rasayana Chikitsa retreat programs today. Geographical context plays an important role in the effectiveness of Rasayana therapy. A Rasayana Chikitsa retreat in Kerala, India offers access to traditional Ayurvedic lineages, region-specific herbal preparations, and clinical expertise developed over generations. The natural humidity and temperature of Kerala are considered supportive for therapeutic absorption and tissue nourishment. In comparison, other parts of India offer varied approaches, ranging from clinical Ayurvedic hospitals to wellness-focused retreats. A Rasayana retreat in Sri Lanka shares similar climatic advantages and continues to grow as a complementary Ayurvedic destination. Meanwhile, a rejuvenation retreat in Bali is often positioned within a luxury wellness framework, where the emphasis may lean more towards relaxation and lifestyle enhancement rather than classical Ayurvedic methodology. Rasayana Chikitsa is particularly relevant in conditions involving degeneration and depletion, including low immunity, post-illness recovery, chronic fatigue syndromes, and age-related decline. It is also used to support mental performance, memory, and emotional stability, making it beneficial for individuals experiencing burnout or cognitive strain. A structured Rasayana program involves more than therapies alone. It includes strict adherence to dietary guidelines (Pathya), behavioural discipline, and routine alignment to maximise absorption and effectiveness. Seasonal considerations (Ritucharya) and daily routines (Dinacharya) are often integrated into the program to enhance long-term outcomes. The success of Rasayana therapy depends heavily on consistency, correct sequencing, and the individual’s ability to follow these guidelines. Another important aspect is that Rasayana Chikitsa is often recommended after detoxification therapies such as Panchakarma, as a cleansed body is more receptive to nourishment and regeneration. This sequencing significantly enhances the effectiveness of Rasayana interventions. Choosing the right Rasayana Chikitsa retreat requires attention to medical authenticity and program structure. Key factors include the presence of qualified Ayurvedic physicians, use of classical herbal formulations, personalised protocols, and a controlled environment that supports rest and recovery. Unlike general wellness programs, Rasayana therapy requires a methodical approach to deliver measurable and lasting results. Rasayana Chikitsa ultimately represents Ayurveda’s vision of sustained vitality rather than temporary wellness. By focusing on regeneration, tissue strength, and internal resilience, it provides a pathway to maintain health, delay ageing, and enhance overall quality of life in a structured and scientifically grounded manner.

Shodhana Chikitsa (Body Detoxification)

Shodhana Chikitsa represents the purificatory branch of Ayurveda, focusing on the systematic elimination of accumulated waste and restoring physiological balance. It is a clinically structured approach that works through specialised procedures designed to cleanse different systems of the body, including the digestive tract, circulatory pathways, and deeper tissue channels (Srotas). In Ayurveda, the body’s internal transport system plays a crucial role in maintaining health. When these channels become obstructed due to improper digestion, lifestyle factors, or environmental influences, it can lead to stagnation, inflammation, and the progression of disease. Shodhana therapies are designed to clear these pathways, allowing nutrients to circulate effectively and supporting the body’s natural regulatory functions. A core component of Shodhana Chikitsa is its integration with the classical detoxification framework commonly associated with Panchakarma. Depending on individual requirements, purification methods such as Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Vamana (controlled emesis), and Basti (medicated enema therapy) may be incorporated to target specific imbalances. These procedures are not applied uniformly but are carefully selected and sequenced based on the individual’s constitution and clinical condition. Before the main purification procedures, the body undergoes preparatory processes that enhance the effectiveness of detoxification. These include Snehana (internal and external oleation) to loosen deeply seated toxins and Swedana (herbal steam therapy) to mobilise them into the digestive tract for elimination. This preparatory phase ensures that the purification process is both effective and controlled. Following detoxification, a structured post-therapy phase is introduced to stabilise the body and restore digestive strength. This includes gradual dietary progression, digestive support, and lifestyle regulation to ensure that the system adapts smoothly after the cleansing process. Without this phase, the benefits of detoxification may not be sustained. A Shodhana Chikitsa retreat in Kerala, India offers a highly authentic setting for these therapies due to the region’s long-standing Ayurvedic tradition, availability of trained practitioners, and use of classical treatment protocols. Kerala’s climate supports sweating and metabolic activity, which enhances the efficiency of detoxification procedures. Across India, detox programs are available in both clinical and retreat formats, while destinations such as Sri Lanka and Bali provide alternative wellness-focused experiences that may combine Ayurvedic principles with broader spa and relaxation approaches. Shodhana Chikitsa is particularly relevant for individuals dealing with chronic imbalances, inflammatory conditions, metabolic disorders, and skin-related concerns, where toxin accumulation and channel obstruction play a significant role. It is also used as a preparatory step before deeper rejuvenation therapies, as a cleansed system responds more effectively to nourishment and restorative treatments. This form of Ayurvedic detoxification is not a general wellness trend but a medically guided process that requires precision, sequencing, and professional supervision. Its effectiveness lies in its ability to address the root level of imbalance, making it a foundational therapy within the broader Ayurvedic system of healing.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and fatigue. Ayurveda identifies RA as "Amavata," caused by the accumulation of toxins (Ama) and vitiated Vata dosha. Treatment focuses on eliminating toxins through Panchakarma therapies like Virechana (purgation) and Basti (medicated enemas). Herbal formulations such as Guggulu and Shallaki help reduce inflammation and strengthen joints. Customized diets and lifestyle adjustments prevent further toxin buildup. Therapies like Abhyanga (oil massage) and Swedana (herbal steam therapy) relieve pain and improve mobility. Ayurveda's holistic approach promotes joint health, boosts immunity, and enhances overall well-being

14 Nights Ulcerative Colitis Treatment Program

The Ulcerative Colitis Treatment Program at Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat is a specialised Ayurvedic healing program designed to support individuals suffering from Ulcerative Colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disorder that affects the inner lining of the large intestine and rectum. Common symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, rectal bleeding, digestive discomfort, fatigue, bloating, weight loss, and recurrent inflammation of the colon. The program follows a holistic approach focused on detoxification, digestive restoration, inflammation management, and strengthening the intestinal system through authentic Ayurvedic therapies and lifestyle correction. The treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation with the Ayurvedic physician, who carefully evaluates the guest’s body constitution, digestive health, severity of symptoms, dietary habits, and overall metabolic condition to create a personalised therapeutic plan. The program integrates Panchakarma detoxification therapies, internal herbal medicines, specialised dietary regulation, and supportive Ayurvedic treatments aimed at soothing the digestive tract and restoring intestinal balance. Weight Management

Ayurvedic weight management is based on the principle that sustainable weight balance is achieved through metabolic correction, hormonal regulation, and lifestyle alignment, rather than temporary calorie restriction. It focuses on restoring the body’s natural ability to process, absorb, and utilise nutrients efficiently, ensuring that weight loss occurs gradually and remains stable over time. One of the key factors addressed in Ayurvedic weight management is the role of metabolic toxins (Ama) and impaired digestive fire, which can lead to the accumulation of excess body fat and fluid retention. When metabolic pathways are inefficient, the body tends to store rather than utilise energy, resulting in persistent weight gain despite dietary control. Ayurvedic therapies are designed to stimulate these metabolic processes and improve the body’s ability to eliminate waste effectively. A structured weight management retreat in Kerala, India includes a combination of specialised therapies that actively support fat metabolism and circulation. Treatments such as Udwarthanam, a herbal powder massage, help break down subcutaneous fat and improve lymphatic drainage, while Swedana (therapeutic steam) enhances sweating and supports toxin elimination. In certain cases, detox-oriented procedures may also be incorporated to reset metabolic function and improve treatment outcomes. Diet plays a central role in the success of a weight management program. Rather than restrictive eating, Ayurveda emphasises digestive efficiency and food compatibility, prescribing meals that are easy to metabolise and aligned with the individual’s constitution. This approach helps regulate appetite, reduce cravings, and improve nutrient absorption without creating nutritional deficiencies. Lifestyle correction is another essential component. Daily routines (Dinacharya), sleep regulation, and physical activity such as yoga are integrated into the program to support metabolic balance and long-term weight stability. These practices ensure that the results achieved during the retreat can be maintained beyond the treatment period. A weight management retreat in Kerala offers a distinct advantage due to its combination of authentic Ayurvedic expertise, climate, and access to high-quality herbal preparations. Across India, programs may vary between clinical centres and wellness retreats, while destinations such as Sri Lanka and Bali offer similar experiences with a stronger emphasis on relaxation and wellness tourism rather than classical Ayurvedic protocols. This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with stubborn weight gain, metabolic slowdown, fluid retention, or post-diet weight rebound. It is also suitable for those seeking a structured and medically guided program that goes beyond conventional weight loss methods. Ayurvedic weight management ultimately focuses on retraining the body’s internal systems, allowing it to maintain balance naturally. By combining therapies, diet, and lifestyle practices, it provides a comprehensive and sustainable pathway to achieving optimal body weight and long-term metabolic health.

Stress Management

Ayurvedic stress management is centred on the understanding that mental strain and nervous system imbalance are closely linked to physiological disruption. When the body remains in a prolonged state of stimulation, it affects sleep patterns, digestion, hormonal balance, and cognitive function. Ayurveda approaches this condition by stabilising the nervous system, regulating internal rhythms, and restoring the body’s ability to shift between activity and recovery. A key factor in stress-related conditions is the imbalance of Vata dosha, which governs movement, nerve impulses, and mental activity. When aggravated, it can lead to restlessness, anxiety, irregular sleep, and mental fatigue. Ayurvedic therapies focus on grounding and stabilising this imbalance through consistent, rhythm-based treatments that calm the system and reduce overstimulation. A structured stress management retreat in Kerala, India incorporates therapies specifically designed to regulate the nervous system. Treatments such as Shirodhara, where warm medicated oil is poured over the forehead, help reduce mental hyperactivity and improve sleep patterns. Abhyanga (synchronised oil massage) supports circulation and induces a state of deep relaxation, while Nasya (nasal therapy) is used to clear the head region and improve mental clarity. These therapies work together to shift the body from a heightened stress response to a more stable and balanced state. In addition to treatments, herbal formulations are prescribed to support the nervous system and improve the body’s adaptive response to stress. These are combined with structured daily routines, breathing practices, and meditation techniques that help regulate mental activity and improve focus. The environment plays a significant role in the effectiveness of stress management programs. A stress management retreat in Kerala provides a setting that supports recovery through natural surroundings, consistent climate, and access to experienced Ayurvedic practitioners. Across India, programs may vary between clinical and retreat-based formats, while Sri Lanka offers a similar tropical setting with a growing focus on Ayurvedic relaxation therapies. In contrast, Bali positions stress management within a wellness tourism framework, often blending Ayurveda with yoga and spa-based experiences. This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing burnout, chronic stress, sleep disturbances, anxiety, or cognitive fatigue. It is also relevant for those whose work or lifestyle involves prolonged mental engagement, irregular routines, or high levels of responsibility. A typical program begins with a detailed consultation, followed by a personalised treatment plan that integrates therapies, diet, and daily routine adjustments. Emphasis is placed on consistency and gradual regulation rather than quick relief, ensuring that the nervous system stabilises over time. Ayurvedic stress management ultimately focuses on retraining the body’s response to stress, allowing it to function without constant overstimulation. By combining therapeutic interventions with lifestyle correction, it offers a structured and sustainable method to improve mental clarity, sleep quality, and overall cognitive function.

Chronic Liver Disease

Chronic Liver Disease (CLD) encompasses a range of progressive liver disorders that impair liver function over time, often caused by alcohol abuse, hepatitis, or metabolic imbalances. In Ayurveda, the liver is linked to the Pitta dosha, and liver diseases arise from its aggravation. Treatment involves Panchakarma therapies like Virechana (therapeutic purgation) and Basti to eliminate toxins. Herbal formulations such as Bhumyamalaki, Kalmegh, and Katuki are used to rejuvenate liver cells, improve digestion, and enhance metabolism. A Pitta-pacifying diet, along with lifestyle corrections, helps reduce stress on the liver, restore its health, and prevent further damage.

Osteo Arthritis Treatment

Osteoarthritis is a chronic joint disorder that occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones gradually breaks down. As the cartilage wears away, the bones may rub against each other, leading to pain, swelling, stiffness, and reduced flexibility in the affected joints. Common symptoms include joint pain during movement, stiffness especially after rest or in the morning, swelling around the joints, and a reduced range of motion. The knees, hips, hands, and spine are the joints most commonly affected. In some cases, people may also experience a cracking or grinding sensation during joint movement. Risk factors include aging, previous joint injuries, excess body weight, repetitive strain on joints, and genetic predisposition. Over time, osteoarthritis can affect daily activities such as walking, climbing stairs, or gripping objects. In Ayurveda, osteoarthritis is often understood as a condition related to Vata aggravation in the joints, sometimes referred to as Sandhivata. When Vata increases, it causes dryness, degeneration, and reduced lubrication within the joints, leading to pain and stiffness. Ayurvedic management focuses on balancing Vata, nourishing the joints, and improving joint mobility. Treatment may include a warm and nourishing diet, herbal medicines that support joint health, and lifestyle practices that maintain flexibility and reduce strain on joints. Therapies such as Abhyanga (medicated oil massage) help lubricate the joints and calm Vata, while Swedana (therapeutic sweating) helps relieve stiffness and improve circulation. Basti (medicated enema therapy) is considered particularly effective for balancing Vata and supporting joint health. Gentle exercises, yoga, and weight management can also help improve joint function and reduce discomfort.

Gout Arthritis Treatment

Gout Arthritis is a metabolic joint disorder that occurs when excess uric acid in the blood forms crystals and deposits in the joints. This leads to sudden and intense pain, swelling, redness, and tenderness in the affected joints. The big toe is the most commonly affected joint, but gout can also affect the ankles, knees, wrists, and fingers. Gout attacks often occur suddenly, sometimes during the night, and can cause severe discomfort and difficulty in movement. Repeated attacks may lead to joint damage if not properly managed. Other symptoms may include warmth in the joint, limited movement, and sometimes the formation of uric acid deposits called tophi under the skin. In Ayurveda, gout is closely related to Vatarakta, a condition caused by the obstruction of Vata dosha by impure Rakta (blood tissue). Poor digestion, excessive intake of heavy, oily, spicy foods, alcohol, red meat, and sedentary lifestyle habits can contribute to the accumulation of toxins and metabolic imbalance. Ayurvedic management focuses on purifying the blood, reducing inflammation, improving metabolism, and balancing Vata and Pitta doshas. Treatment may include dietary modifications to reduce uric acid formation, herbal medicines that support detoxification and joint health, and lifestyle practices that improve metabolism. Panchakarma therapies such as Virechana (therapeutic purgation) to cleanse Pitta and Rakta, Raktashodhana (blood purification therapies), Abhyanga (medicated oil massage), and Swedana (therapeutic sweating) may be recommended depending on the stage of the condition. With proper care, diet regulation, and supportive therapies, Ayurveda aims to reduce pain, prevent recurrent attacks, and support long-term joint health.

Dermatitis Treatment

Dermatitis refers to inflammation of the skin that can present as redness, itching, dryness, swelling, or rashes. It may occur in different forms such as contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis (eczema), or seborrheic dermatitis. Symptoms can vary from mild irritation to severe discomfort, sometimes with oozing or crusting. Common triggers include allergens, chemicals, soaps, cosmetics, weather changes, stress, and certain foods. Repeated exposure to irritants or underlying sensitivity can worsen the condition. According to Ayurveda, dermatitis is caused by aggravation of Pitta dosha (leading to redness, heat, and inflammation) and Kapha dosha (causing itching, swelling, and discharge). It also involves Rakta Dhatu Dushti, which affects skin health. When digestion (Agni) is weak, it leads to formation of Ama (toxins), which circulate in the body and manifest through the skin. Unhealthy dietary habits, incompatible food combinations, irregular routines, and emotional stress can aggravate the condition further. Management focuses on treating the root cause by improving digestion, eliminating toxins, and balancing doshas. A simple, clean, and easily digestible diet helps reduce toxin formation and supports healing. Avoiding known triggers and maintaining proper skin hygiene are essential. Detoxification therapies play a key role in long-term management. Snehapanam (internal oleation therapy) helps loosen toxins from deeper tissues, followed by Virechanam (therapeutic purgation), which is effective in eliminating excess Pitta and purifying the blood, thereby reducing inflammation and skin reactions. Supportive therapies such as Abhyanga (medicated oil application) help nourish and protect the skin, while local applications reduce itching, dryness, and irritation. Stress management through yoga, meditation, and proper sleep is also important, as stress can trigger flare-ups. With a consistent Ayurvedic approach focusing on detoxification, diet, and lifestyle correction, dermatitis can be effectively managed, improving skin health and reducing recurrence.

Fatty Liver Disease Treatment

Fatty Liver Disease is a condition where fat builds up in the liver cells, which can interfere with the liver’s ability to function properly. It is commonly seen in individuals with obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, or those who follow an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. It may also occur due to excessive alcohol intake (alcoholic fatty liver) or without alcohol (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). In the early stages, fatty liver may not cause noticeable symptoms. However, as the condition progresses, some individuals may experience fatigue, discomfort or heaviness in the upper right abdomen, loss of appetite, and mild weight gain. If left unmanaged, it may lead to inflammation, liver damage, or more serious conditions. Risk factors include sedentary lifestyle, high intake of fatty or processed foods, excess sugar consumption, obesity, insulin resistance, and poor digestion. Stress and irregular daily routines may also contribute to the condition. In Ayurveda, fatty liver is understood as a disorder involving Kapha accumulation (leading to fat deposition) and Pitta imbalance (affecting liver function), along with weakened Agni (digestive fire). The formation of Ama (toxins) further contributes to blockage and impaired metabolism in the liver. Ayurvedic management focuses on improving digestion, enhancing liver metabolism, reducing fat accumulation, and detoxifying the body. Treatment may include a light, balanced diet with reduced intake of oily, fried, and sugary foods, along with herbal medicines that support liver health. Panchakarma therapies such as Virechana (therapeutic purgation) are often recommended to balance Pitta and cleanse the liver. Supportive practices like regular exercise, weight management, yoga, and stress reduction techniques play an important role in improving liver function and preventing progression of the disease.

Treatment For Arthritis

Herbal remedies play a central role in Ayurvedic treatments for arthritis and spondylitis. Medicinal herbs such as turmeric, ginger, boswellia, ashwagandha, and guggulu are renowned for their anti-inflammatory properties and ability to support joint health. These herbs can be consumed orally as powders, capsules, or teas, or applied topically in the form of oils or ointments. Dietary modifications are another cornerstone of Ayurvedic therapy. Emphasizing a diet that is warm, nourishing, and easily digestible, Ayurveda recommends avoiding foods that aggravate the doshas associated with arthritis and spondylitis, such as cold, dry, and processed foods. Including spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric in cooking can also aid digestion and reduce inflammation. In addition to herbal remedies and dietary adjustments, Ayurvedic treatment often incorporates lifestyle modifications and therapeutic practices to promote overall well-being. Gentle exercises like yoga and tai chi can improve flexibility, strengthen muscles, and enhance joint mobility. Ayurvedic therapies such as Abhyanga (oil massage), Swedana (herbal steam therapy), and Basti (medicated enema) may also be recommended to detoxify the body, reduce pain, and restore balance. By addressing the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit, Ayurvedic treatment for arthritis and spondylitis aims to not only alleviate physical discomfort but also to promote holistic healing and improve quality of life. However, it's important to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to receive personalized guidance and ensure safe and effective treatment.

14 Nights Psoriasis Treatment Program

The Psoriasis Treatment Program at Malika Ayurveda Beach Retreat is a specialised Ayurvedic healing program designed to manage psoriasis, a chronic skin condition characterised by the rapid buildup of skin cells leading to scaling, redness, inflammation, and dryness across various parts of the body. In psoriasis, the normal skin regeneration cycle accelerates abnormally, causing cells to accumulate on the surface before shedding naturally. Ayurveda interprets this condition as a result of dosha imbalance, particularly involving Vata and Pitta, along with toxin accumulation (Ama), which affects the skin and blood tissues. The program follows a holistic approach that focuses on detoxification, purification of blood, strengthening immunity, and restoring skin health through classical Ayurvedic principles. The treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation with the Ayurvedic physician, who evaluates the guest’s body constitution, severity of skin condition, lifestyle factors, and underlying metabolic imbalances. Based on this assessment, a personalised treatment plan is developed incorporating Panchakarma detoxification therapies, internal herbal medications, and external treatments. Ayurveda at Malika emphasises addressing the root cause rather than just symptoms, combining therapeutic procedures, dietary regulation, and lifestyle modifications as part of the healing process. These therapies help eliminate toxins, regulate immune response, and improve the natural regeneration of the skin. The program integrates medicated oil applications, cleansing therapies, and supportive treatments that help reduce inflammation, soothe irritated skin, and promote healing. Internal herbal medicines and a physician-prescribed diet further support detoxification and metabolic balance, while yoga and relaxation practices contribute to stress reduction, which is an important factor in managing chronic skin conditions. Through this structured and personalised Ayurvedic approach, the program aims to reduce symptoms, minimise recurrence, and enhance overall skin health and wellbeing.

My wife and I completed the 21-day course. We loved everything, the staff was wonderful, and the service was top-notch. I lost 7 kg after the course. The time flew by. I recommend this clinic to everyone. Special thanks to Dr. Binod for allowing us to undergo treatment without an appointment.

A wonderful Ayurvedic clinic. Accurate diagnostics, adjustments to the treatment plan as needed, attention and care. The entire team works incredibly well together, and the therapists' professionalism, precision, and quality of work are top-notch. This isn't just treatment; it's a philosophy of life. And in this philosophy, life itself is what matters—no chemicals, "beneficial" poisons, or other substances unsuitable for the human body. No stressful activities. Only a gradual immersion into calm and relaxation, the supply of building blocks to the cells, and warmth. Then the body does everything on its own. They relaxed me and slowed me down so much that my body began to cope with what previously required a visit to the doctor and lengthy medication. I feel not just rested, but reborn. And, of course, yoga. I am absolutely delighted with the trainers they brought in. Not like at home, with its "faster, higher, stronger" slogan, so after that kind of yoga you'll have to see an osteopath. But real yoga, where the body works exactly as best it can. Asanas, chosen in order, build a body map in the mind, creating fluidity and effectiveness. I wish you continued growth and continued purity and honesty in your work. Thank you! P.S. I will be grateful for a long time to my dear therapist, Arun. And please, give him a microphone so he can record his album. He has a wonderful voice, not to mention his sparkling humor and Ayurvedic talent.

Our stay at Malika Ayurvedic Beach Retreat was truly memorable and deeply rejuvenating. From the moment we arrived, everything reflected - care, professionalism, and a sincere commitment to authentic Ayurveda. The treatments and massages were excellent—thoughtfully planned, expertly administered, and clearly tailored to individual needs. Each session left us feeling lighter, calmer, and more balanced, both physically and mentally. The therapists deserve special appreciation for their skill, dedication, and gentle, respectful approach. All the staff members were exceptionally warm, attentive, and courteous. Their genuine hospitality made us feel comfortable and cared for throughout our stay. Every small detail—from treatment schedules to daily interactions—was handled with sincerity and efficiency. The serene beachside atmosphere added to the healing experience, making the retreat not just beneficial, but also deeply peaceful and refreshing. By the end of our stay, we felt revitalized.
