Kairali The Ayurvedic Healing Village
Premium Ayurveda Hospital
India / Kerala / Palakkad

Nestled in the verdant heart of Kerala, Kairali Ayurvedic Group proudly introduces the world's premier Ayurvedic Health Farm, Kairali - The Ayurvedic Healing Village, hailed as Asia's preeminent Ayurvedic Retreat. Earning the prestigious World Luxury Spa Award for an unprecedented fifth time and securing a revered spot in the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame for consistent excellence, Kairali - The Ayurvedic Healing Village stands as a beacon of tranquility and well-being.

Situated in Palakkad, just a stone's throw from the majestic mountain pass connecting Kerala and Tamil Nadu, The Ayurvedic Healing Village sprawls over 60 acres of lush foliage, adorned with ethereally designed ethnic villas. A retreat that beckons guests to immerse themselves in the therapeutic embrace of nature, surrounded by the fragrant forests of Kerala's Pala trees.

Founded in 1989, Kairali Ayurvedic Group stands as a testament to health and well-being, dedicated to disseminating the wisdom of Ayurveda globally. With a heritage passed down through four generations, the group has burgeoned to 25 treatment centers in India and 9 abroad, with three Ayurvedic health retreats on the horizon.

Kairali - The Ayurvedic Healing Village serves as the flagship hospitality service, embodying traditional and authentic Ayurvedic therapies, treatments, and medications, complemented by Yoga and Meditation. Nestled at the foothills of the Nilgiri and Annamalai ranges, it offers 30 premium villas surrounded by mountains, forests, fertile valleys, and rivers.

The retreat, aligned with Vaastu Shastra, provides a restorative ambiance, complete with Red Oxide flooring, a rare Valambari Conch shell, and gentle streams flowing around each villa. Immerse guests in Yoga, Meditation, Astrology, Palmistry, nutritional therapy, spiritual training, and traditional Indian rituals as part of their daily routine.

In this inspiring jungle sanctuary, guests will question whether they're experiencing the pinnacle of modern holistic luxury or journeying into India's distant past. Everything in this retreat bears the imprint of nature, from lush greenery to the fragrance of coconut palms. The healing village invites guests to interact with the surroundings, enjoy tranquility, and lose themselves in the lap of nature.

Kairali upholds a commitment to an alcohol-free environment, promoting healing for the mind, body, and soul. Complying with Ayurvedic principles, the retreat maintains a domain of 'no intoxication,' recognizing the adverse effects of alcohol on doshic balance and immune strength.

Similarly, Kairali strictly enforces a 'no-smoking' policy at the retreat, fostering a serene and pollution-free zone. Smoking, with its negative impact on doshas and addiction, is contrary to the Ayurvedic principles upheld by the healing village.

Embracing the philosophy of 'Say No to Caffeine,' Kairali promotes a caffeine-free environment. Recognizing the adverse effects of caffeine on doshas and blood pressure, the retreat encourages guests to forego this stimulant for a healthier lifestyle.

Kairali's commitment to wellness extends to its in-house products, which undergo continuous research and development. From herbal oils for hair and body to proprietary medicines, all products are authentic, natural, and free from preservatives, aligning with Ayurvedic principles.

Avoiding the use of preservatives and refrigeration, Kairali emphasizes the vitality of food. Refrigerated food is considered lifeless in Ayurveda, lacking prana and hindering digestion. The retreat sources freshly picked fruits and vegetables from its own organic garden, promoting a healthy, nourishing diet.

Kairali goes a step further with its commitment to organic farming, maintaining an organic garden free from pesticides, chemicals, and preservatives. This sustainable approach enhances soil fertility and biological diversity, ensuring that the food served at the retreat is pure, natural, and in harmony with Ayurvedic principles.

Beyond its dedication to holistic health, Kairali Ayurvedic Group actively contributes to the welfare of the local community. Charitable outreach programs include providing agricultural lands to struggling farmers, buyback initiatives, skill development training, and support for local hospitals and schools.

In essence, Kairali - The Ayurvedic Healing Village is not just a retreat; it's a testament to the Kairali Ayurvedic Group's commitment to holistic well-being, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility. Whether guests seek rejuvenation, tranquility, or a deeper connection with Ayurveda, this haven invites them to experience the intersection of tradition and luxury in the lap of nature.

More about Kairali The Ayurvedic Healing Village

Food transcends mere sustenance; it symbolizes a conscious approach to living, encapsulating the broader concept of 'nourishment of the whole self.' To truly appreciate this, one must view food not as a passive diet but as a dynamic tool for personal growth.

The Ayurvedic Healing Village recognizes that dietary needs and digestion are intricately linked to the rhythms of nature and ever-changing parameters. Mindful eating becomes essential for unlocking inner potential through nourishment. In Ayurveda, the emphasis on food is paramount, serving as a necessary element for enhancing bodily strength and immunity. The interplay of mind and nutrition becomes apparent; a balanced connection prompts a desire for healthy food, while imbalance leads to various problems.

The digestive system plays a crucial role, producing Ojas—a substance that cultivates the mind and body, maintaining overall balance and achieving a state of bliss. Weak digestive fire, on the other hand, results in incomplete digestion, forming toxins known as ama. Ama creates blockages, disrupting the flow of oxygen and settling in areas of the body that are out of balance, manifesting as various issues such as calcium deposits, plaque, and cysts.

A simple guideline for achieving a balanced diet is to incorporate the six Ayurvedic tastes (sweet, salty, sour, pungent, bitter, and astringent) into each meal. This practice ensures representation of all major food groups and nutrients, reducing the urge to snack and overeat.

When thinking of Ayurveda, the mind often conjures images of medicinal plants and shrubs. Ayurveda, being the offspring of nature, considers food offered by nature as an integral component of Ayurvedic food. Ayurvedic food, defined as nutritionally mindful and palatable, follows the principles laid out by nature.

While nature provides a variety of foods, The Ayurvedic Healing Village discourages the consumption of non-vegetarian food due to its association with escalated Tamas, akin to darkness. This type of diet is believed to contribute to heightened temper, increased blood pressure, and excess cholesterol accumulation. Ayurveda strictly prohibits the consumption of non-vegetarian food, aligning with its harmonious philosophies.

Ayurvedic cuisine encompasses a wide range of natural offerings, from exotic fruits to nurturing vegetables. It prioritizes nutrition and taste, sometimes compromising taste for the sake of health. Ayurvedic food represents everything nature provides for well-being, and it is the responsibility of individuals to recognize and embrace these gifts.

Situated in Palakkad, Kerala, The Ayurvedic Healing Village upholds an unbroken tradition of Ayurveda, earning acclaim as a holistic health retreat. The village, dedicated to traditional treatments and world-class Ayurvedic guidance, focuses on creating awareness about the benefits of healthy cooking.

In line with this commitment, The Ayurvedic Healing Village has introduced an Ayurvedic restaurant on-site, incorporating all possible permutations to enhance the quality of food without compromising taste. The village hosted 'The Chef Retreat' in July 2017, bringing in world-class chefs to showcase the goodness and purity of Ayurvedic food. This initiative aimed to educate guests about the interesting and healthy aspects of Ayurvedic cooking.

At The Ayurvedic Healing Village, there is a profound understanding of the importance of healthy, nutritious, and hygienic food. The chefs follow the motto "Safe Food, Healthy Life," ensuring utmost care to prevent food contamination. Precautionary measures, such as the regular renewal of kitchen utensils, are prioritized to maintain hygiene standards. This dedication makes The Ayurvedic Healing Village an ideal place to savor sumptuous Ayurvedic meals, promoting a healthy lifestyle for all.

Since its establishment in 1989, Kairali Ayurvedic Group has consistently upheld its legacy in the realm of Ayurveda, dedicated to disseminating the wisdom of this ancient discipline. In tandem with its commitment to promoting Ayurveda, Kairali has fostered an organic farm where a diverse array of fruits, trees, and vegetables thrive through organic cultivation. The extensive list of products cultivated in Kairali's organic garden includes gourds, melons, chillies, and tomatoes.

The unwavering contributions of Kairali Ayurvedic Group to society have elevated its position to an unparalleled level in the global forum, particularly within the hotel and spa industry. Kairali's profound belief in the healing power of food has led to a focused approach on organic farming and cultivation at Kairali - The Ayurvedic Healing Village.

Kairali Ayurvedic Group actively engages in various corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at enhancing and sustaining the farming ecosystem. These initiatives encompass:

Sustainable Farming: Sustainable agriculture, a cornerstone at Kairali, emphasizes the production of safe, high-quality agricultural products while preserving the natural environment. The cultivation process involves the use of organic fertilizers such as organic waste, kitchen waste recycling, and leaf mold composting.

Rice Production: Kairali undertakes organic rice production, cultivating various rice varieties in paddy fields for both consumption and Ayurvedic treatments.

Vegetable Farming: The organic farm boasts the cultivation of 40 different types of vegetables, all grown organically for long-term health benefits. The extensive list includes snake gourd, bitter gourd, ridge gourd, pumpkin, and many more.

Arboretum: Kairali has established an arboretum, a large garden featuring over 200 species of trees, including a fruticetum with 70 varieties of fruit trees like royal palm, orange palm, and banana varieties.

Afforestation: Kairali actively participates in afforestation, employing the Miyawaki method of plantation to create forest cover in areas lacking trees.

Agriculture: Situated in the "Rice Bowl of Kerala," Palakkad, Kairali Ayurvedic Group cultivates crops like paddy, coconut, pulses, areca nut, tapioca, ginger, and more.

The commitment to organic living extends beyond farming. Kairali's water harvesting pond features medicinal plants, and the herbal garden includes 6 types of bamboo, 30 varieties of palms, and unique species like kepel and nutmeg.

Efforts to maintain an organic garden have not only created awareness but also led to the production of various Ayurvedic products derived from medicinal plants, contributing to global well-being.

In addition to agriculture, Kairali Ayurvedic Group's ecosystem includes poultry (ducks, geese, and various breeds of chickens), goats, and country cows. Organic waste, cow dung, and goat manure are utilized for organic vegetable production.

Promoting a holistic lifestyle, Kairali Ayurvedic Group offers various methods to achieve a tranquil mind, such as walks in nature and the exploration of ancient, healthy cooking practices. The village is a haven where individuals can find peace of mind through an incredible assortment of activities.

The core of Kairali Ayurvedic Group's offering lies in ancient Vedic knowledge, reflected in its Ayurvedic treatments, fine dining, yoga and meditation center, herbal garden, charm science consultations, beauty therapy, conference facilities, swimming pool, recreation, business center, amphitheater, and more.

The place seemed very serene and the over all ambiance , it’s staffs, the Doctors, nurses, therapists, the yoga & Meditation instructors, reception desk staffs, the house keepers, the dining hall and kitchen staffs, the security guards… everything about Kairali was so so therapeutic. Each soul was so potentially divine… anyone going their to relieve stress and anxiety will really find a change within a week’s stay. Food & drinks: The food purely vegetarian, was very healthy, organic and balanced , whereas I am a non vegetarian , my appetite had increased from the second week though. Our program was for two weeks, and it was worth… Noteworthy details: The therapists were all too good during the therapy sessions and very helpful too. Their kindness make us so comfortable throughout the sessions. All were equally good , Usha , I found was very experienced and supportive. Rimya too was very amiable and tried giving positive compliments amidst the stress and anxiety period. Dr. Sally was again very understanding and warm unlike doctors of big private hospitals in the metros and cosmos. Her gestures were very comforting though younger in age.

I wouldn’t say i went a sceptic, however i did return a convert. Personally, i had just recovered from a major surgery getting my vitals back on track and life was functioning alright with my belief that things are under control at 45 and i had no ailments to report either. I went in looking only for a break from the humdrum of daily life with no experience or expectations tagged along by a ‘partner in crime’ :) who was way more prepared than me with notes and questions and records. Point being, you are welcome either way, whether prepared or unprepared. Spent 7 days at Kairali and every minute is cherished much. Thankfully being a vegetarian the diet transition wasn’t tough. For better outcomes, it helps if the per-admit diet instructions are followed to make the most of your time during the stay. The location at the outskirts of Palakkad, Kerala in a sleepy village is idyllic and yet well connected with a 2-3 hour distance from airports nearby. With a stay in Nov, Dec the weather gods were kind with no excessive heat or rains. On arrival we had an elaborate engagement with the doctor on all aspects of health, probing but not intrusive, pleasant and professional. The diagnosis incorporates elements of modern medicine while the treatment remains classic ayurveda which strikes a fine balance. Behind the scene works of diet, medication, treatment schedule is very well organised that it all flows seamlessly. Doctor consultation too goes on throughout your stay with enough options to address any questions you have. The therapies were an experience of bliss, specially once you and your body have opened up to receive the goodness. Our cottage was spacious well arranged with all amenities, we used it only to crash at night spending, most of our waking time going around. Each cottage with a different shape and a non linear layout adds to the visual appeal. Food being a highly subjective matter can be a challenge, but what is served is fresh, clean and well prepared. Though they do provide additional servings, be assured that a little goes a long way. The taste of simplicity is quiet refreshing and as informed by the kitchen most of the supply is sourced from their own garden. Farm to table indeed. With ample time between treatments, the team also organises activities for those interested. It added to our experience to have a good time with other guests. The place works very well both ways - solitude or in good company. Personally the treatment worked wonders at different levels, specially when i had no specific targets or goals. It was a revelation how good it feels to improve your health and it reflects not just in your joints and the body, but in your entire demeanour, interactions with others and your response to surroundings. It serves well to fall into a rhythm and so much of the baggage one unknowingly carries just melts away. I have experienced an enhanced sense of awareness, a shift in my outlook (which i pray sustains) to my own life and a sense of compassion (i still haven’t figured out what brought this through). While these are results that cannot be predicted or promised, it is an indicator that good health can reflect at varying levels. Not to mention, i also achieved visible results on the numbers front for a base. My sincere thanks to all the adorable therapists, the kitchen staff, the front office people who made the stay very pleasant in a heartening, generous way. Also the umpteen invisible people who keep the system running round the clock with no disruption. Many thanks to the Yoga teacher for setting each day and closing it too on a beautiful note. While i was a first time visitor my travel buddy for whom this was a repeat trip, found the facilities too vastly improved over years. All you need to do bring with you is an open mind and will to try.

Need to work more on YOGA . Evenings to be added on with more activities Food was good. Therapists were good. If something can be done to wooden beds , must be done (hard). Doctors were concerned. Reception ambience awesome.

Food is horrible! Only 1 dish per meal, no choice and most importantly they don’t follow diet accordingly to doshas like other auyrvedic centers. Everyone gets the same meal, only difference is rise or bread. Food waiting time is up to 1,5 hrs, as there is only 3 waiter’s for all people. If you ask for an extra salad or fruit its chargeable. They refused to provide juice according to description after the treatments. Be careful ordering room service, if you aren’t feeling well, food won’t arrive on time and then they will tell you- sorry kitchen is closed. Cleanness is disaster!!! Room is cleaned only upon request. Bed liner hasn’t been changed in 2 weeks even upon request! Towels are worn out and has sports and stinks. They don’t pick up dishes tray in days what leads to bad smell and infections. No hot water in the evening time. In auyrveda center there is no clean cups available, the staff throw away in the garden rest of the tea from previous guest who was just drinking it, and pure water into it to drink for next guest with out washing the cup! Its anti sanitary! Treatments are extremely short: 2 min head massage, 3 min face, 5 min body, 10-15 min treatment and 5 min steam; done! Stuff is extremely stinky, and they don’t respect calmness of the treatment by shouting at each other, impossible to relax. No one wears masks, but everyone sneezes and coughs, i got flue there on my 10th day of stay with out leaving the territory. This is not auyrveda its a joke. Dr is absolutely careless, never even checked my pulse. Yoga class was the worst experience as male teacher allow himself to touch female guests at private parts of the body during the class followed by question- are you single? Can we spend some time together after the class alone? Is it acceptable behavior in India? As well he push hardly everyone into the posture, with massive force what leads to injury of many yang and old, its so unprofessional! He never question- any injuries? Or- may i adjust you into the posture? May I touch you? Extremely rude and inappropriate behavior of the management, they only care to squeeze more money from consumers in dishonest ways cheating with a coast of online booking to almost double it. They absolutely don’t care what is happening in the resort, after filling soo many complaints i reach out to the owner himself, mr Ramesh and mrs. Gidda, nothing has been fixed or changed either. Only yoga teacher has been replaced. Staff is absolutely not educated not trained, no one speaks English, lots of issues and miscommunication. An old blind man was left alone by the staff at the staircase, he fell down and broke his head, an old lady was left alone in a wheelchair after her treatment, we heard her screaming for help. Is that how they are treating people there. Absolutely not suitable for disabled people how the website says. This place shouldn’t have rank of healing and safe village as children are welcome on primacies, but there is no play ground for them so they are running around territory disturbing guest and there is no safety precautions for them. If you still want to have experience of a hell on earth and waste your money and time, go for it. There is thousands of beautiful ayurveda places in India, well organized, clean, good treatment, proper food and dr supervision. This place should be closed down by ministry of health!

The Kairali resort is situated in beautiful surroundings, very green and tranquil. We were not there to participate in any of the treatment sessions it was just a stop over to relax in tranquil surroundings for 1 night. The cottage was average, although, the bed clothes could have been cleaner, not sure it the sheets had been changed. Lots of mosquitoes around, they did spray at night. Menus are fixed, fixed price no change. Nothing in the rooms to say if they do snacks, room meals etc. Very disappointed with that. Maybe if undertaking their courses it would be different. Expensive for what you got.
