Food, often overshadowed in a bustling commercial world, assumes pivotal importance in Ayurveda. Classified based on natural elements and individual body constitutions (Doshas), Ayurveda advocates a mindful, respectful approach to eating. Tailoring specific diets to individual body types, it emphasizes the consumption of fresh, organic food, inviting a deeper, more engaged dining experience.

Understanding individual body constitutions (Doshas) remains fundamental to Ayurvedic principles. It eschews a one-size-fits-all approach, honoring the uniqueness of each person’s physical and mental traits.

Ayurveda urges heightened awareness of bodily signals and cues, crucial for the body's self-healing mechanisms. Neglecting these cues could lead to toxin accumulation, manifesting as diseases. Ayurveda champions mindfulness, aligning daily activities and breathing techniques with inner bio-energies and the environment.

In the Ayurvedic realm, the intricate connection between mind and body takes precedence. It champions holistic solutions for mental well-being, a stark contrast to the chemically induced approaches of modern medicine. By embracing age-old practices like Yoga, meditation, alongside right dietary choices and personalized breathing patterns, Ayurveda nurtures a healthy mind within a healthy body.

Sleep, often underestimated, holds a profound place in Ayurvedic philosophy. An understanding of sleep—its duration, timing, pre-sleep rituals, and dietary considerations—holds the key to overall health and individual constitutions.

Rooted in the belief of a Universal Life Force, Ayurveda intertwines this belief into its therapeutic methods. It encourages recognition of nature’s elements and cycles within our bodies, fostering a deep connection. Guiding individuals to acknowledge these natural elements within themselves, Ayurveda opens pathways to tap into these energies for a balanced, harmonious life.

My husband and I had a beautiful & holistic experience at Coconut Lagoon. We stayed here in the heritage bungalow for 4 days and each felt like a blessing. The property is more beautiful than the pictures online, the views are breathtaking and the vibe is magical. I will start with Soni who made us feel so welcome & cared for. She made sure we get to enter the resort via the jetty even though we were checking in late. The manager Lekha is humble, pleasant and though she’s wearing a mask, you know she’s always smiling. We opted for almost all the activities (included) like bird watching, butterfly garden, property tour. Both guides Umesh & Vishnu have studied environmental science, taught us a lot about the flora and fauna around. Our kayaking experience with the patient & punctual Sunil was really good too. And its not like activities were stuffed just for the sake of it. They all took their time and you can see how passionate they are about what they do! Our sunset cruise in the Vembanad lake gave me goosebumps because it was a treat to the eyes & the ears with live flute music and the colours of the sun teasing the waves. The restaurant food - elaborate buffet spread & ala carte, gives the true taste of Kerala along with continental varieties. The service is next level! They are polite, happy to serve and answer all your questions. Special mention for Amal here. Always super attentive, getting me another fork before I even had a chance to pick up my dropped one! I can never forget that. I recommend to go for a long stress relieving massage at their Ayurveda center. And yes, don’t miss Amma’s evening chai/coffee. From seeing kingfisher birds in action to drinking sweet coconut water - this property will heal you.

Had an amazing experience at CGHEarth Kumarakom. Amenities, facilities, staff courtesy, location, rooms, hygiene - everything was awesome! Ayurvedic Spa was very good. They have some really nice activities like bird watching, property walk, indoor games, sunset cruise which were the highlights for our trip. Only suggestion is about the food. Food options for vegetarian guests were limited. Food was predominantly bland without much spice catering to foreign guests.

The Coconut Lagoon created unforgettable experience for me. Firstly this is a village type resort located on the back of Vembanad Lake with canals in the resort, beautiful gardens and traditional houses. The resort offer multiple attractions like birds and butterflies watching, mats weaving, boat cruises and kayak. It has own Ayurveda centre, yoga and meditation classes. Service is awesome and very friendly. Houses are kept clean. There are two restaurants offering delicious food.

This is a treasure in Kumarakom. The CGH Earth org makes every effort to be eco responsible and it is evident here. The staff is warm, welcoming and eager to assist in any way. The property is beautiful and we highly recommend the bird walk, ayurveda talk and property walk to really appreciate this special place. The room was spacious and comfortable. The open air bathroom/shower so esthetic and also functional. The dining area is very attractive, the staff attentive and the food not only delicious but served with much attention to detail, flavors and taste. We wish we could have extended our 2 night stay.

In our minds, CGHEarth had a halo before this trip, but I can't quite say the same now. Location - the resort is at a great location and the whole experience of getting there in a boat makes the getaway feeling all the more real. You will need to park your car on the other side of the lake and then carry all your stuff in a boat. We were not warned about this, and carrying all our stuff to the room was messy. Anyway, you get amazing views of the lake from the property and the small canals running all around the place add to the feel. Most of the rooms however, don't have views (ours was 229 without a view). Rooms - Very well maintained, super-clean and comfortable. A good blend of the modern and the traditional - reminded me of my ancestral home where we had those ceramic flip switches and the old-fashioned wooden locks on the doors. Food - We came with high expectations, but the food was really underwhelming. I wouldn't call it bad, just ordinary. Of all the dishes that we tasted, may be 1 or 2 were noteworthy, but none outstanding. At the prices that they charge, one would expect most of the dishes to be near-perfect. Basic dishes like egg roast, masala dosa, chutney, sambar, pasta were average. Pulav was really bad with the taste of spoilt oil/ghee. Crab roast was ordinary. I remember a prawn dish and chicken stew that were good. Scrambled egg was great. Can’t remember a "wow" dessert. And surprisingly for Kumarakom, they don't really give you the real deal with fish. Karimeen which is the specialty of the area is absent from the menu. I had expected seafood to be a highlight. Safety - Almost all staff wear masks all the time, and basic sanitation protocols are in place. The linen and towels seemed very clean too. However, there is scope to improve in the kids' safety area. With so many canals and the lakeshore, it can be a bit stressful if you have children less than 3-4 years old with you. But I understand that they don't want to spoil the looks with grills etc. At least they could instruct guests with toddlers about the dangers and what to do in case of an incident. Service - Service is good, but not great. Our friend who also visited with us had major issues with their agreed wheelchair and transport arrangement which was messed up. I had to call back the property for an expensive item that I thought I lost, but got a lethargic response. Overall, if the prices were 20% lower, it would have been worth it.

We stayed at Coconut Lagoon for a week. The heat was unbearable in May. Very hot and humid. The place is lush green, with a fantastic Lake Vembanad view. From airport to the resort it takes roughly 2 hours by cab and then a boat ride to the resort which takes about 15 minutes. The rooms are good, the wood ceiling, red tiles add a unique village feature to the bungalow. None of the rooms have TV, which can be off-putting to people with young families. There is a common television room, which you need a permission to use, we used it once, but some channels seemed to require a paid subscription. The bathroom is open, so there is no A/C or even fan there, we were sweating a lot, it will benefit from having a small ceiling or corner table fan. WIFI is free, however, it doesn’t work inside the rooms, so, if you sit outside the room in the verandah, the connection is a little bit better. Or, even stronger in the reception area. Most of the staff are friendly and professional to deal with. However, we felt that a handful of other staff should give the customers some personal space and wait for the customers to approach them, which they will, if they need help. There was this young waiter in the main restaurant, who was fine until we didn’t speak to him for a few days, but as soon as we did to simply ask a question about the resort, he got carried away and was unwittingly disturbing us at dinner time with lots of unnecessary questions, when we wanted to have some peace and quiet. There are several entertainment shows that are organised by the management each evening, which was good. The meditation class was disappointing. Plenty of insects and mosquitos around, don't forget your repellent. The souvenir shop was very good, the male cashier was very helpful. The reception staff all very helpful. Special mention for the night duty male staff, he was friendly and professional. There are 2 restaurants, we tried both, the speciality one was very quiet at lunch time, so if you like a private lunch, this is the place. Their chicken dosa was excellent. The breakfast restaurant is also the main restaurant, it has a good choice of buffet, such as dosas, idlis, vadas, omelettes etc. The dinner buffet was also good, with excellent choices both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Such as fish curries, paneer curries, dals, chapatis, soups, salads and desserts. If you are a meat lover, then there is beef curry and pork curry in abundant almost everyday, however, the mutton curry was served only once in 6 days that we were here. We didn't eat beef or pork. The desserts were all continental, such as cream cakes, mousses and cheesecakes, it will be nice to have at least 1 Keralan or Indian dessert such as gulab jamun or payasam etc. The main reason for us giving this otherwise beautiful resort 2 stars is because I wanted the readers to know that please be careful of their jacuzzi which is embedded in their outdoor swimming pool. It gave me a nasty infection. The water from the jacuzzi jumps out too high and has a capacity to go inside your body, and if the pool is not cleaned thoroughly being a tropical island you are sure to get some sort of infection. So please be careful, especially the lady swimmers.

In theory, this resort would be phenomenal. But it is poorly executed in many ways. My friend and I got ayurvedic massages, and they were uncomfortable and unprofessional. This surprised us because we heard good things about the massages, so maybe we somehow had a rare experience. The 4 hand massage was awkward and uneven. Seemed like we both had a talented masseuse and a trainee. The bathing was horrendous - shampoo, water, facial scrub in my eyes, nose, and mouth. Not the right climate to be exposed to the outdoors during a full body massage - bugs, shifting temperatures, etc. But the manager did respond kindly and refunded me for the experience. He was receptive to feedback and assured it was not supposed to be like that. The resort itself has beautiful architecture and a great selection of food. The restaurant, kitchen, and maintenance staff was very kind and helpful. We drank the filtered water and haven’t gotten sick yet, so seems ok. But there are very very few lights at night, so it feels scary and eerie walking around after sunset. Our room also had lights flickering even when they were turned off - the bulbs had to be removed. We were here for one night, and it rained so they did not offer the complimentary sunset cruise. We had to pay the next day to go on a backwaters tour. I think the resort should have offered this as a complimentary back-up option. We made the most of the experience, so it was not bad. The beauty of the waters and the bungalows helped us appreciate the resort. But the resort itself needs improvement to live up to the image that it strives for.
