AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat

AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat
Luxury Hospital in a Resort Setting | Healing & Wellness Property
India / Kerala / Kovalam - Beach

AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat is an Ayurvedic hospital and wellness retreat located at Chowara, south of Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, overlooking the Arabian Sea. Operated under the Somatheeram Ayurveda Group, it is presented as the group's flagship property and follows the group's original concept of combining an Ayurveda hospital with a resort ambience, established by Mr Baby Mathew in 1985. The property is positioned as a boutique Ayurvedic hospital where classical Ayurvedic treatment is combined with accommodation, therapeutic cuisine, Yoga, meditation and a heritage-inspired environment. Kerala Tourism lists AyurSoma as an Ayurveda Centre with Ayur Diamond classification. The property is also identified by the group as operating within its NABH-accredited Ayurvedic healthcare framework.

The retreat's distinctive identity comes from its seafront setting, Kerala temple- and palace-inspired architecture, extensive use of wood and traditional craftsmanship, personalised Ayurvedic treatment, vegetarian therapeutic dining and structured Yoga and meditation facilities. Its accommodation, treatment areas and common spaces are designed around the combination of traditional Kerala aesthetics and contemporary hospitality facilities. The property also provides cultural and educational activities connected with Ayurveda and Kerala traditions, including cooking demonstrations, lectures, seminars, Ayurveda medicine-related experiences and excursions.

Property Design and Landscape

AyurSoma occupies a seafront setting south of Kovalam, with the architecture deliberately drawing from traditional Kerala temples and palaces. The principal building incorporates carved wooden ceilings, doors and windows, wooden balcony railings, traditional-style corridors and a centrally positioned clock tower. The design uses wood, stone and other locally associated architectural elements to recreate the visual character of historic Kerala royal structures while retaining contemporary accommodation and healthcare functions. A meditation hall incorporates latticed woodwork, reinforcing the palace-inspired aesthetic.

The landscape and building orientation make the Arabian Sea and natural surroundings integral to the retreat environment. Accommodation is arranged to maximise sea views where applicable, while the hill-facing category looks towards the property's adjoining cliff or hillock. The property includes sea-facing Yoga and meditation spaces, an open-air restaurant, a sea-facing swimming pool and beach facilities. Its architectural approach is intended to maintain a connection between the built environment, climate, natural airflow and traditional Kerala craftsmanship rather than treating the retreat as a conventional modern hotel.

Founders and Ayurvedic Heritage

The heritage of AyurSoma is directly linked to the Somatheeram Ayurveda Group, founded by Mr Baby Mathew in 1985. His original concept was to create an Ayurveda hospital within a resort ambience, an approach that subsequently became the defining model of the Somatheeram group. Baby Mathew, a postgraduate in Business Administration, developed his work around the intersection of Ayurveda, tourism, Kerala heritage and hospitality, and promoted Ayurvedic tourism internationally. The group describes Somatheeram as the world's first Ayurveda resort based on this hospital-in-resort concept.

AyurSoma was subsequently developed as the flagship property of this group, extending the original medical-resort concept into a more explicitly royal and heritage-oriented setting. Its identity combines the group's established Ayurvedic healthcare tradition with Kerala palace architecture, traditional craftsmanship, Ayurveda-focused hospitality and contemporary comfort. The property therefore represents a later development of the Somatheeram model rather than an independent hereditary Ayurveda family institution. Its heritage positioning is based principally on the preservation and reinterpretation of Kerala architectural traditions and the institutional legacy of the Somatheeram Ayurveda Group.

Ayurveda Philosophy and Approach

AyurSoma's medical approach is centred on classical Ayurveda and individual constitutional assessment, with treatment decisions based on the three doshas—Vata, Pitta and Kapha—and the individual's physical condition and requirements. Ayurvedic care is presented as a broader process involving therapeutic procedures, herbal medicines, dietary regulation, Yoga, meditation and changes to daily routines rather than as a sequence of isolated massages or spa treatments. The property emphasises hygiene, individual attention and medical supervision throughout the treatment period.

The underlying philosophy considers health in relation to the individual's constitutional balance and lifestyle. AyurSoma states that Ayurvedic treatment begins with consultation to understand individual requirements and constitution, after which doctors determine the appropriate treatment approach. The property's dietary system is similarly connected to the three doshas, while Yoga and meditation are incorporated as complementary components of the overall wellness routine. Medicines used at the property are described as being mostly produced at AyurSoma, with some sourced from forests, and the property states that more than 2,000 varieties of herbal plants can be found within the premises.

Personalised Treatment Planning

Treatment planning at AyurSoma begins with a medical consultation and constitutional assessment, after which the consulting doctor determines the appropriate treatment programme. The initial assessment considers the individual's constitution and health requirements, with treatment selection and duration subject to medical direction. The property's treatment information explicitly states that the duration and procedures may be modified according to the doctor's recommendation and the patient's physical condition, rather than being treated as completely fixed procedures for every participant.

The treatment process includes initial, daily and final medical consultations, together with an individual Ayurvedic diet plan and medicines during the treatment period. Doctors are responsible for monitoring the course of treatment and can alter the programme according to individual requirements. The therapeutic model therefore combines medical supervision with Ayurvedic diet, daily treatments, Yoga and meditation, allowing the treatment schedule to be adjusted as the individual's condition develops during the stay. The final treatment decisions remain with the consulting doctor.

Treatment Programs

The principal programme portfolio published for AyurSoma comprises Rejuvenation Therapy, Body Purification, Slimming, Stress Management, Beauty Care and Anti-Ageing. The programme range covers preventive and restorative Ayurveda as well as targeted lifestyle and wellness objectives. Rejuvenation Therapy (Rasayana Chikilsa) is associated with restoration and rebuilding of overall health and includes medicated oil treatments, internal herbal medicines and medicated steam. Body Purification (Shodhana Chikilsa) focuses on Ayurvedic purification and detoxification followed by rejuvenation.

The Stress Management Programme combines Ayurvedic treatments with Yoga and meditation and may include rejuvenation massage, Dhara, Njavarakizhi, Thalam, herbal steam, herbal packs and internal herbal medicines. The Beauty Care Programme combines Ayurvedic skin and body treatments with Yoga and meditation and uses herbal face packs, herbal creams, special oils, fruit and herbal juices, body and head packs, steam or herbal baths. The property also offers 7- and 14-day Classic Hatha Yoga retreats, as well as 7- and 14-day Yoga retreats combining Classic Hatha Yoga with Ayurveda, particularly Rejuvenation Therapy and Body Purification.

Doctors and Wellness Experts

AyurSoma operates with an Ayurvedic medical team supported by professionally trained therapists, with doctors responsible for consultation, treatment planning, monitoring and dietary guidance. The published treatment model places the consulting doctor at the centre of programme selection, with treatment procedures altered according to constitution and clinical condition. The property also provides Yoga and meditation instruction as an integrated component of its wellness model rather than treating Yoga solely as a recreational activity.

Publicly available historical and guest-facing material identifies doctors associated with the wider Somatheeram medical operation, including Dr K. Chandrasekharan Nair and Dr Reshma Venu, while more recent guest references identify physicians including Dr Chandrika Devi, Dr Rahul and Dr Geethu in connection with AyurSoma. However, the currently published official AyurSoma website does not provide a sufficiently complete and current doctor directory with qualifications, positions and specialities. Individual biographies and clinical specialities should therefore be maintained separately only after current confirmation from the property.

More about AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat

AyurSoma’s Oottupura, the dedicated Ayurveda dining facility, treats food as an integral component of the therapeutic process rather than as a separate hospitality service. The dining programme follows a doctor-guided Ayurvedic vegetarian diet, with meals planned around the individual’s Vata, Pitta and Kapha constitution and the requirements of the treatment being undertaken. The property’s Ayurvedic menu has been developed by its team of doctors with reference to classical Ayurvedic texts and includes a broad selection of dishes formulated around the properties of the three doshas. Guests undergoing Ayurvedic treatment are advised to follow the prescribed diet closely, while doctors assist with appropriate food choices and meal timing.

The cuisine is purely vegetarian, with ingredients locally procured at the property, and vegan options are available. Herbal teas and infused waters are provided as part of the dietary and detoxification approach, while spices are incorporated not merely for flavour but for their traditional Ayurvedic properties. The menu encompasses traditional Kerala and Indian preparations, including dishes such as Soma Special Drumstick Soup, Soma Special Pineapple Salad and Soma Special Papaya Payasam, alongside a wider range of therapeutic preparations. The property also publishes traditional Ayurvedic recipes featuring foods such as Kerala-style vegetable stew, appam, idiyappam and other light, easily digestible vegetarian preparations.

The dining setting extends the retreat’s connection with nature through an open-air restaurant overlooking the sea, where meals can be taken amid coastal views and natural sea breezes. The daily treatment schedule places breakfast between 7.00 am and 11.00 am, doctor-advised vegetarian lunch between 12.30 pm and 3.00 pm, and doctor-advised vegetarian dinner between 7.00 pm and 10.00 pm. Ayurvedic dietary guidance is therefore integrated into the daily therapeutic routine, with food serving as a continuing component of the retreat’s broader approach to digestion, constitutional balance and healthy lifestyle practices.

AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat provides a range of leisure, cultural and recreational experiences that complement its Ayurvedic wellness environment and allow guests to explore Kerala beyond their treatment schedules. The property’s seafront setting provides opportunities to relax beside the Arabian Sea, enjoy sea views and spend quiet time amid landscaped surroundings. Guests can also make use of the sea-facing swimming pool and beach facilities during suitable free periods.

Leisure activities extend into cultural and educational experiences connected with Kerala’s traditions and Ayurvedic heritage. Guests can participate in Ayurveda cooking demonstrations, Ayurveda lecture classes, and visits to the Ayurveda medicine manufacturing unit to learn about traditional medicine preparation. The property also organises or facilitates Ayurveda and Yoga seminars, workshops and cultural art forms, providing opportunities for guests to engage with local traditions and wellness practices.

For excursions, AyurSoma offers experiences such as backwater and village tours, including a half-day country-boat backwater excursion for eligible package bookings of 14 nights or longer, as well as a Kovalam Beach Town Tour. These outings provide opportunities to experience Kerala’s coastal landscape, waterways, villages and local culture. Leisure time can also be combined with the property’s Yoga and meditation facilities, including its Yoga halls and open Yoga platform, allowing guests to maintain a calm and restorative daily rhythm while enjoying the resort environment.

AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat integrates Ayurveda, Yoga and meditation as complementary components of its holistic wellness approach. Ayurveda forms the central focus of the property, with treatments planned according to the guest’s individual constitution and the balance of the Tridoshas—Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The Ayurvedic approach combines personalised therapies with doctor-guided diet, herbal medicines, lifestyle guidance and supportive practices rather than treating Ayurveda as a purely therapeutic massage system. Guests receive an initial, daily and final consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, while the treatment schedule and procedures may be adjusted according to individual requirements and physical condition.

Yoga is incorporated into the daily wellness routine and is available as a complimentary daily Yoga class for guests staying on Ayurvedic treatment packages. AyurSoma has two dedicated Yoga halls and an open Yoga platform for practice. Its Yoga offerings include Classic Hatha Yoga retreats of 7 or 14 days, as well as the Ayur Yoga Retreat, which combines Classic Hatha Yoga with Ayurveda, particularly Rejuvenation Therapy and Body Purification. Yoga sessions are structured for different levels, with the daily schedule providing advanced practice in the morning, beginner sessions later in the morning and an intermediate session in the evening.

Meditation forms another part of the daily routine, supporting mental relaxation, concentration and the broader mind-body approach of Ayurveda. The regular schedule includes a dedicated morning meditation session from 7:30 to 8:00 am, followed by Yoga. Guests can therefore incorporate meditation and Yoga into their daily rhythm alongside their personalised Ayurvedic treatments, creating an integrated approach to physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Panchakarma

A Panchakarma retreat is a deeply transformative Ayurvedic detox and healing program designed to eliminate accumulated toxins, restore internal balance, and rejuvenate the body and mind. Rooted in the ancient science of Ayurveda, Panchakarma meaning “five actions” is a medically guided process that works at a cellular level to remove toxins (Ama), strengthen digestion (Agni) and balance the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Unlike modern detox programs or wellness retreats that focus only on relaxation, a Panchakarma retreat is a structured therapeutic process aimed at long-term health, disease prevention and complete physiological reset. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, the body is constantly exposed to stress, processed foods, environmental pollutants and irregular routines. These factors weaken digestion and lead to the accumulation of Ama, a toxic byproduct that obstructs bodily channels and disrupts normal functioning. Over time, this imbalance manifests as fatigue, weight gain, poor digestion, hormonal issues, joint pain, skin disorders, and mental stress. A Panchakarma retreat addresses these root causes by mobilising and eliminating toxins from deep tissues, allowing the body to restore its natural intelligence and healing capacity. A traditional Panchakarma treatment follows a carefully structured three-stage process to ensure safety and effectiveness. The first stage, known as preparation (Purva Karma), involves therapies such as Snehana (internal and external oiling) and Swedana (herbal steam therapy), which help loosen and mobilise toxins from the tissues. The second stage, the main detox phase (Pradhana Karma), includes specialised treatments such as Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Basti (medicated enemas), Nasya (nasal detox), and in specific cases, Vamana or Raktamokshana. These therapies are selected based on individual diagnosis and are performed under the supervision of qualified Ayurvedic doctors. The final stage, rejuvenation (Paschat Karma), focuses on restoring strength, rebuilding immunity, and stabilising the body through herbal medicines, a specialised Ayurvedic diet, and lifestyle guidance. A Panchakarma retreat offers a wide range of benefits that go beyond physical detoxification. It improves digestion and metabolism, supports sustainable weight management, enhances immunity, reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep quality, and promotes clearer skin and increased energy levels. One of the most profound effects of Panchakarma is its impact on mental clarity and emotional balance. As toxins are eliminated from the body, the nervous system becomes more stable, allowing the mind to shift from a state of stress to a state of calm and focus. Many individuals experience a deep sense of reset, both physically and mentally, after completing a Panchakarma program. When choosing a Panchakarma retreat, location plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of the treatment. A Panchakarma retreat in Kerala, India is widely considered the most authentic and effective option due to its strong Ayurvedic lineage, ideal tropical climate, and access to medicinal herbs. Kerala is home to highly trained BAMS-certified Ayurvedic doctors who follow classical treatment protocols, ensuring a medically accurate and personalised approach. The warm and humid climate of Kerala supports detoxification by opening the body’s channels, making treatments more effective compared to colder regions. For this reason, Kerala has become the global centre for authentic Panchakarma therapy. Across India, Panchakarma retreats are available in various formats, ranging from traditional Ayurvedic hospitals to luxury wellness resorts. While India offers a wide range of options, the quality and authenticity of treatment can vary significantly, making it important to choose centres that provide personalised care and medical supervision. A Panchakarma retreat in Sri Lanka offers a similar tropical environment and is emerging as a destination for Ayurvedic healing, often combining traditional therapies with a more relaxed retreat experience. Meanwhile, a Panchakarma retreat in Bali is popular for its scenic beauty and luxury wellness offerings, although treatments may be adapted and may not always follow classical Ayurvedic protocols as practised in India. A typical Panchakarma retreat includes an initial consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, personalised treatment planning, daily therapies, herbal medications, and a specialised Ayurvedic diet designed to support detoxification. Many retreats also incorporate yoga, meditation, and lifestyle guidance to enhance overall well-being. The duration of a Panchakarma program can vary depending on individual health goals, with 7-day programs offering mild detox, 14-day programs providing moderate cleansing, and 21 to 28-day programs delivering deep detoxification and long-term healing benefits. For chronic conditions and deeper imbalances, longer programs are generally recommended. Choosing the right Panchakarma retreat is essential for achieving safe and effective results. A genuine retreat should offer qualified Ayurvedic doctors, personalised treatment protocols, daily medical supervision, authentic Panchakarma therapies, and a structured dietary plan. It is important to understand that Panchakarma is not a spa treatment or a relaxation package—it is a medical healing process rooted in Ayurvedic science. A Panchakarma retreat is ultimately an investment in long-term health and well-being. It is ideal for individuals seeking to address chronic health issues, improve digestion, reduce stress, enhance immunity, or simply reset the body and mind. By removing deep-rooted toxins and restoring balance, Panchakarma allows the body to function optimally and maintain a state of natural harmony. Whether you choose a Panchakarma retreat in Kerala, India, Sri Lanka, or Bali, the experience offers a powerful opportunity to reconnect with your health, restore vitality, and experience true holistic healing.

14 Nights Panchakarma Program

The 14 Nights Panchakarma Program at AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat is centred on Ayurvedic body purification and the restoration of balance within the Tridoshas—Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The Program corresponds to the centre’s stated duration for its Body Purification program, making it relevant for guests seeking a structured Ayurvedic purification and rejuvenation experience. Its broader philosophy recognises that Ayurvedic care must reflect each person’s constitution and individual requirements rather than applying identical treatment to all guests. The program seeks to support physical purification, restoration of Tridosha balance and overall rejuvenation, while encouraging greater understanding of individual health and appropriate daily practices. Ayurvedic dietary guidance and lifestyle adjustments form part of the centre’s wider approach to maintaining balance and supporting wellbeing beyond the treatment period. The consulting physician monitors the course of care and may alter the program according to the guest’s requirements and body condition, with the final treatment decisions determined following consultation. Personalisation is therefore based on the guest’s Prakriti (individual constitution), current health condition, present imbalance and therapeutic goals, allowing the Ayurvedic physician to establish an appropriate plan for the individual. Note: All treatments and program components are personalised following the initial consultation with the retreat's Ayurveda doctor and the guest's health condition. Therapy protocols may vary accordingly.

Rasayana Chikitsa (Rejuvenation Therapy)

Rasayana Chikitsa occupies a unique place in Ayurveda as the branch dedicated to rejuvenation, regeneration, and longevity science. While commonly understood as a therapy, Rasayana is traditionally described as a discipline that enhances the quality of life by improving tissue integrity, cognitive function, and resistance to ageing. It operates through specialised protocols that support the renewal of body tissues (Dhatus) and optimise the flow of nutrients across physiological systems. One of the defining aspects of Rasayana therapy is its focus on tissue nourishment at successive levels. Ayurveda explains that the body is sustained through a chain of tissue formation—from plasma (Rasa) to reproductive tissue (Shukra). When this chain is disrupted, degeneration, fatigue, and premature ageing begin to appear. Rasayana Chikitsa works by improving this tissue transformation process, ensuring that each layer is properly nourished and regenerated. A key concept associated with Rasayana is Ojas, considered the essence of all bodily tissues and the foundation of immunity, vitality, and mental stability. Depletion of Ojas is linked to chronic fatigue, low immunity, emotional instability, and reduced resilience. Rasayana therapies are designed to rebuild Ojas through targeted herbal formulations, dietary regulation, and restorative treatments that strengthen both physical and psychological endurance. Rasayana Chikitsa is also closely connected to age management in Ayurveda. Classical texts describe different stages of life and recommend Rasayana interventions to slow down degeneration and maintain optimal function. This makes it particularly relevant for individuals seeking healthy ageing, improved cognitive performance, and sustained energy levels rather than symptomatic treatment alone. There are different approaches within Rasayana therapy, including Kutipraveshika Rasayana (a highly controlled and intensive rejuvenation protocol conducted in isolation) and Vatatapika Rasayana (a more practical, lifestyle-integrated approach suitable for retreat settings). While the former is rarely practised in modern environments due to its strict requirements, the latter forms the foundation of most Rasayana Chikitsa retreat programs today. Geographical context plays an important role in the effectiveness of Rasayana therapy. A Rasayana Chikitsa retreat in Kerala, India offers access to traditional Ayurvedic lineages, region-specific herbal preparations, and clinical expertise developed over generations. The natural humidity and temperature of Kerala are considered supportive for therapeutic absorption and tissue nourishment. In comparison, other parts of India offer varied approaches, ranging from clinical Ayurvedic hospitals to wellness-focused retreats. A Rasayana retreat in Sri Lanka shares similar climatic advantages and continues to grow as a complementary Ayurvedic destination. Meanwhile, a rejuvenation retreat in Bali is often positioned within a luxury wellness framework, where the emphasis may lean more towards relaxation and lifestyle enhancement rather than classical Ayurvedic methodology. Rasayana Chikitsa is particularly relevant in conditions involving degeneration and depletion, including low immunity, post-illness recovery, chronic fatigue syndromes, and age-related decline. It is also used to support mental performance, memory, and emotional stability, making it beneficial for individuals experiencing burnout or cognitive strain. A structured Rasayana program involves more than therapies alone. It includes strict adherence to dietary guidelines (Pathya), behavioural discipline, and routine alignment to maximise absorption and effectiveness. Seasonal considerations (Ritucharya) and daily routines (Dinacharya) are often integrated into the program to enhance long-term outcomes. The success of Rasayana therapy depends heavily on consistency, correct sequencing, and the individual’s ability to follow these guidelines. Another important aspect is that Rasayana Chikitsa is often recommended after detoxification therapies such as Panchakarma, as a cleansed body is more receptive to nourishment and regeneration. This sequencing significantly enhances the effectiveness of Rasayana interventions. Choosing the right Rasayana Chikitsa retreat requires attention to medical authenticity and program structure. Key factors include the presence of qualified Ayurvedic physicians, use of classical herbal formulations, personalised protocols, and a controlled environment that supports rest and recovery. Unlike general wellness programs, Rasayana therapy requires a methodical approach to deliver measurable and lasting results. Rasayana Chikitsa ultimately represents Ayurveda’s vision of sustained vitality rather than temporary wellness. By focusing on regeneration, tissue strength, and internal resilience, it provides a pathway to maintain health, delay ageing, and enhance overall quality of life in a structured and scientifically grounded manner.

Shodhana Chikitsa (Body Detoxification)

Shodhana Chikitsa represents the purificatory branch of Ayurveda, focusing on the systematic elimination of accumulated waste and restoring physiological balance. It is a clinically structured approach that works through specialised procedures designed to cleanse different systems of the body, including the digestive tract, circulatory pathways, and deeper tissue channels (Srotas). In Ayurveda, the body’s internal transport system plays a crucial role in maintaining health. When these channels become obstructed due to improper digestion, lifestyle factors, or environmental influences, it can lead to stagnation, inflammation, and the progression of disease. Shodhana therapies are designed to clear these pathways, allowing nutrients to circulate effectively and supporting the body’s natural regulatory functions. A core component of Shodhana Chikitsa is its integration with the classical detoxification framework commonly associated with Panchakarma. Depending on individual requirements, purification methods such as Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Vamana (controlled emesis), and Basti (medicated enema therapy) may be incorporated to target specific imbalances. These procedures are not applied uniformly but are carefully selected and sequenced based on the individual’s constitution and clinical condition. Before the main purification procedures, the body undergoes preparatory processes that enhance the effectiveness of detoxification. These include Snehana (internal and external oleation) to loosen deeply seated toxins and Swedana (herbal steam therapy) to mobilise them into the digestive tract for elimination. This preparatory phase ensures that the purification process is both effective and controlled. Following detoxification, a structured post-therapy phase is introduced to stabilise the body and restore digestive strength. This includes gradual dietary progression, digestive support, and lifestyle regulation to ensure that the system adapts smoothly after the cleansing process. Without this phase, the benefits of detoxification may not be sustained. A Shodhana Chikitsa retreat in Kerala, India offers a highly authentic setting for these therapies due to the region’s long-standing Ayurvedic tradition, availability of trained practitioners, and use of classical treatment protocols. Kerala’s climate supports sweating and metabolic activity, which enhances the efficiency of detoxification procedures. Across India, detox programs are available in both clinical and retreat formats, while destinations such as Sri Lanka and Bali provide alternative wellness-focused experiences that may combine Ayurvedic principles with broader spa and relaxation approaches. Shodhana Chikitsa is particularly relevant for individuals dealing with chronic imbalances, inflammatory conditions, metabolic disorders, and skin-related concerns, where toxin accumulation and channel obstruction play a significant role. It is also used as a preparatory step before deeper rejuvenation therapies, as a cleansed system responds more effectively to nourishment and restorative treatments. This form of Ayurvedic detoxification is not a general wellness trend but a medically guided process that requires precision, sequencing, and professional supervision. Its effectiveness lies in its ability to address the root level of imbalance, making it a foundational therapy within the broader Ayurvedic system of healing.

14 Nights Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment Program

The 14 Nights Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment Program at AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat is intended for individuals seeking Ayurvedic support for rheumatoid arthritis, a progressive autoimmune condition affecting tissues around the joints and, in some cases, internal structures such as the pericardium, pleura and subcutaneous tissues. AyurSoma presents rheumatoid arthritis within its wider Ayurvedic treatment framework, where care begins by assessing the individual’s requirements and the balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The centre’s approach recognises that treatment for complex conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis should be adapted to the person rather than delivered as a uniform programme. This provides an Ayurvedic basis for addressing the individual presentation of the condition while taking account of the guest’s constitution and current health status. The program seeks to support joint and overall wellbeing, better functional comfort and improved balance, while encouraging appropriate dietary and daily practices as part of Ayurvedic care. The centre states that treatment plans can be altered according to individual requirements and body condition, with final treatment decisions made by the consulting physician. The wellbeing is approached through personalised Ayurvedic guidance and attention to individual health needs. Following clinical assessment, the Ayurvedic physician determines the appropriate plan after considering the guest’s Prakriti, Vikriti, health condition, age, strength and therapeutic objectives. Note: All treatments and program components are personalised following the initial consultation with the retreat's Ayurveda doctor and the guest's health condition. The 28 Nights Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment Program at AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat is intended for individuals seeking Ayurvedic support for rheumatoid arthritis, a progressive autoimmune condition affecting tissues around the joints and, in some cases, internal structures such as the pericardium, pleura and subcutaneous tissues. Therapy protocols may vary accordingly.

Weight Management

Ayurvedic weight management is based on the principle that sustainable weight balance is achieved through metabolic correction, hormonal regulation, and lifestyle alignment, rather than temporary calorie restriction. It focuses on restoring the body’s natural ability to process, absorb, and utilise nutrients efficiently, ensuring that weight loss occurs gradually and remains stable over time. One of the key factors addressed in Ayurvedic weight management is the role of metabolic toxins (Ama) and impaired digestive fire, which can lead to the accumulation of excess body fat and fluid retention. When metabolic pathways are inefficient, the body tends to store rather than utilise energy, resulting in persistent weight gain despite dietary control. Ayurvedic therapies are designed to stimulate these metabolic processes and improve the body’s ability to eliminate waste effectively. A structured weight management retreat in Kerala, India includes a combination of specialised therapies that actively support fat metabolism and circulation. Treatments such as Udwarthanam, a herbal powder massage, help break down subcutaneous fat and improve lymphatic drainage, while Swedana (therapeutic steam) enhances sweating and supports toxin elimination. In certain cases, detox-oriented procedures may also be incorporated to reset metabolic function and improve treatment outcomes. Diet plays a central role in the success of a weight management program. Rather than restrictive eating, Ayurveda emphasises digestive efficiency and food compatibility, prescribing meals that are easy to metabolise and aligned with the individual’s constitution. This approach helps regulate appetite, reduce cravings, and improve nutrient absorption without creating nutritional deficiencies. Lifestyle correction is another essential component. Daily routines (Dinacharya), sleep regulation, and physical activity such as yoga are integrated into the program to support metabolic balance and long-term weight stability. These practices ensure that the results achieved during the retreat can be maintained beyond the treatment period. A weight management retreat in Kerala offers a distinct advantage due to its combination of authentic Ayurvedic expertise, climate, and access to high-quality herbal preparations. Across India, programs may vary between clinical centres and wellness retreats, while destinations such as Sri Lanka and Bali offer similar experiences with a stronger emphasis on relaxation and wellness tourism rather than classical Ayurvedic protocols. This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with stubborn weight gain, metabolic slowdown, fluid retention, or post-diet weight rebound. It is also suitable for those seeking a structured and medically guided program that goes beyond conventional weight loss methods. Ayurvedic weight management ultimately focuses on retraining the body’s internal systems, allowing it to maintain balance naturally. By combining therapies, diet, and lifestyle practices, it provides a comprehensive and sustainable pathway to achieving optimal body weight and long-term metabolic health.

Stress Management

Ayurvedic stress management is centred on the understanding that mental strain and nervous system imbalance are closely linked to physiological disruption. When the body remains in a prolonged state of stimulation, it affects sleep patterns, digestion, hormonal balance, and cognitive function. Ayurveda approaches this condition by stabilising the nervous system, regulating internal rhythms, and restoring the body’s ability to shift between activity and recovery. A key factor in stress-related conditions is the imbalance of Vata dosha, which governs movement, nerve impulses, and mental activity. When aggravated, it can lead to restlessness, anxiety, irregular sleep, and mental fatigue. Ayurvedic therapies focus on grounding and stabilising this imbalance through consistent, rhythm-based treatments that calm the system and reduce overstimulation. A structured stress management retreat in Kerala, India incorporates therapies specifically designed to regulate the nervous system. Treatments such as Shirodhara, where warm medicated oil is poured over the forehead, help reduce mental hyperactivity and improve sleep patterns. Abhyanga (synchronised oil massage) supports circulation and induces a state of deep relaxation, while Nasya (nasal therapy) is used to clear the head region and improve mental clarity. These therapies work together to shift the body from a heightened stress response to a more stable and balanced state. In addition to treatments, herbal formulations are prescribed to support the nervous system and improve the body’s adaptive response to stress. These are combined with structured daily routines, breathing practices, and meditation techniques that help regulate mental activity and improve focus. The environment plays a significant role in the effectiveness of stress management programs. A stress management retreat in Kerala provides a setting that supports recovery through natural surroundings, consistent climate, and access to experienced Ayurvedic practitioners. Across India, programs may vary between clinical and retreat-based formats, while Sri Lanka offers a similar tropical setting with a growing focus on Ayurvedic relaxation therapies. In contrast, Bali positions stress management within a wellness tourism framework, often blending Ayurveda with yoga and spa-based experiences. This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing burnout, chronic stress, sleep disturbances, anxiety, or cognitive fatigue. It is also relevant for those whose work or lifestyle involves prolonged mental engagement, irregular routines, or high levels of responsibility. A typical program begins with a detailed consultation, followed by a personalised treatment plan that integrates therapies, diet, and daily routine adjustments. Emphasis is placed on consistency and gradual regulation rather than quick relief, ensuring that the nervous system stabilises over time. Ayurvedic stress management ultimately focuses on retraining the body’s response to stress, allowing it to function without constant overstimulation. By combining therapeutic interventions with lifestyle correction, it offers a structured and sustainable method to improve mental clarity, sleep quality, and overall cognitive function.

Soundarya Vardhini (Beauty Care)

This approach to beauty transcends mere cosmetic enhancement; it's about nurturing the body, mind, and soul in harmony with nature. Central to Ayurvedic beauty care is the belief that our external appearance is a reflection of our internal state of being. By understanding and balancing the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—individual constitutions in Ayurveda, one can tailor beauty routines to address specific needs and imbalances. Ayurvedic beauty rituals encompass a wide array of practices, from herbal skincare treatments and oil massages to dietary recommendations and meditation techniques. Herbal ingredients like turmeric, neem, sandalwood, and amla are prized for their rejuvenating properties and are commonly used in Ayurvedic skincare preparations. Massage, known as Abhyanga, is a cornerstone of Ayurvedic beauty care. It not only nourishes the skin but also stimulates the body's vital energy, promoting relaxation and overall well-being. Similarly, Ayurvedic dietary guidelines emphasize the importance of consuming fresh, whole foods that are in harmony with one's constitution. Unlike many mainstream beauty products that may contain harsh chemicals, Ayurvedic beauty care emphasizes natural, plant-based ingredients that work synergistically with the body's own healing mechanisms. This approach not only enhances physical beauty but also fosters a deeper connection to oneself and the natural world. In essence, Ayurvedic beauty care offers a holistic path to radiant health and timeless beauty, celebrating the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. By embracing the principles of Ayurveda, individuals can cultivate beauty that emanates from a place of balance, vitality, and inner harmony.

Treatment For Skin Diseases

In Ayurveda, skin conditions are often seen as signs of internal imbalance, particularly involving the Pitta and Kapha doshas. Ayurvedic treatment focuses on addressing the root causes rather than only the visible symptoms. By assessing an individual’s Prakriti (body constitution), lifestyle, and health status, practitioners design personalised treatments that may include herbal formulations, dietary guidance, and therapeutic procedures. In certain cases, cleansing therapies such as Panchakarma may also be recommended to support internal purification. Through this holistic approach, Ayurveda aims to promote healthier skin while restoring balance and overall wellbeing.

Treatment For Back Pain

Central to Ayurveda is the concept of balance and harmony within the body, achieved through a combination of natural remedies, lifestyle adjustments, and therapeutic practices. Herbal remedies play a significant role in Ayurvedic treatment for back pain. Various herbs and botanicals with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties are utilized to reduce swelling, alleviate muscle tension, and relieve pain. These may include substances such as ginger, turmeric, ashwagandha, and guggulu, which have been used for centuries to support musculoskeletal health and promote overall well-being. Dietary modifications are another essential aspect of Ayurvedic therapy for back pain. Recommendations typically involve consuming foods that possess anti-inflammatory properties while avoiding those that can contribute to inflammation and aggravate discomfort. Additionally, emphasis is placed on maintaining proper digestion and eliminating toxins from the body, as digestive health is closely linked to overall wellness in Ayurveda. Incorporating lifestyle adjustments is integral to the Ayurvedic approach to managing back pain. This may involve adopting correct posture habits, engaging in regular physical activity to strengthen the back muscles and improve flexibility, and implementing stress-reducing practices such as meditation and deep breathing exercises. By addressing the root cause of back pain through lifestyle modifications, Ayurveda aims to prevent future occurrences and promote long-term relief. Ayurvedic therapies offer a range of specialized treatments tailored to individuals experiencing back pain. These may include Panchakarma detoxification procedures to cleanse the body of accumulated toxins, as well as therapeutic massages using specific herbal oils to soothe sore muscles, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. Yoga and meditation are also commonly prescribed as part of Ayurvedic therapy, offering gentle yet effective methods to alleviate tension, restore balance, and enhance overall spinal health. In essence, Ayurvedic treatment for back pain provides a holistic and personalized approach that addresses the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. By restoring harmony within the individual, Ayurveda not only offers relief from back pain but also fosters a state of optimal health and well-being.

Asthma Treatment

Asthma is a long-term condition in which the airways become inflamed, sensitive, and narrowed, making it difficult for air to pass freely. It often occurs in episodes or attacks, triggered by allergens, dust, cold air, infections, or stress. Common symptoms include wheezing (whistling sound while breathing), shortness of breath, chest tightness, persistent cough (especially at night or early morning), and difficulty in breathing during physical activity or exposure to triggers. Risk factors include family history, allergies, environmental pollution, smoking, respiratory infections, and exposure to dust or cold climate. In Ayurveda, asthma is described as Tamaka Shwasa, caused by aggravation of Kapha dosha leading to mucus accumulation and obstruction, along with Vata dosha causing difficulty in breathing and spasms of airways. Impaired digestion (Agni) and accumulation of Ama (toxins) contribute to blockage of respiratory channels (Srotorodha). Ayurvedic management focuses on clearing Kapha, balancing Vata, and strengthening the respiratory system. Treatment includes Deepana-Pachana (improving digestion), Shodhana (detoxification) such as Vamana (therapeutic emesis) in suitable patients, and supportive therapies. Internal herbal medicines commonly include Vasaka, Tulsi, Pippali, Yashtimadhu, and Ginger, which help reduce inflammation, clear mucus, and ease breathing. External therapies such as Swedana (steam therapy) and Nasya (nasal therapy) help in relieving congestion and improving airflow. Diet should be warm, light, and easy to digest. Avoid cold foods, dairy in excess, fried items, and exposure to allergens that may trigger symptoms. Warm herbal drinks and spices like turmeric and ginger are beneficial. Lifestyle practices such as avoiding dust and cold exposure, practicing gentle breathing exercises, maintaining a clean environment, stress management, and regular routine are important in preventing attacks. This holistic Ayurvedic approach helps in reducing the frequency and severity of asthma attacks, improving lung function, and enhancing overall quality of life.

14 Nights Asthma Treatment Program

The 14 Nights Asthma Treatment Program at AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat is intended for individuals seeking Ayurvedic care for asthma, which the centre identifies as Tamakaswasa, one of five varieties of respiratory disease recognised in Ayurveda. According to the centre’s Ayurvedic explanation, the condition is associated primarily with Vata and Kapha Dosha, with its development described as beginning in the stomach and progressing towards the respiratory organs. The Ayurvedic approach therefore seeks to address the underlying Dosha imbalance while considering the individual’s physical constitution and specific health requirements. Rather than applying a uniform protocol, AyurSoma states that treatment is adapted to each person following consultation, reflecting its broader principle that Ayurvedic care should correspond to the individual constitution and condition. The program is intended to support management of asthma, respiratory wellbeing and restoration of Dosha balance, while encouraging appropriate dietary and lifestyle practices relevant to Vata and Kapha balance. The centre describes its asthma care as incorporating an overall Ayurvedic approach that may be adjusted according to individual needs and physical constitution, with the consulting physician determining the appropriate course of care. Longer-term wellbeing is supported through greater awareness of individual health requirements and appropriate daily practices. Following a comprehensive clinical consultation, the Ayurvedic physician individualises the plan according to the guest’s Prakriti (body constitution), current health condition, present imbalance, age, strength and therapeutic objectives. Note: All treatments and program components are personalised following the initial consultation with the retreat's Ayurveda doctor and the guest's health condition. Ankylosing Spondylosis Treatment

Ankylosing Spondylosis is a long-term inflammatory condition that primarily affects the spine, especially the lower back and sacroiliac joints. It causes chronic pain and stiffness, particularly in the lower back and hips. The pain and stiffness are often more noticeable in the morning or after periods of rest and may improve with movement or exercise. As the condition progresses, inflammation may lead to gradual fusion of the vertebrae, reducing flexibility of the spine and sometimes causing a forward-bent posture. Some individuals may also experience pain in the shoulders, ribs, or hips, along with fatigue and reduced mobility. In Ayurveda, conditions affecting the spine and joints like Ankylosing Spondylosis are often understood as disorders related to Vata imbalance, sometimes associated with Ama (toxins) accumulating in the joints and spinal structures. This can lead to stiffness, restricted movement, inflammation, and pain. Ayurvedic management focuses on balancing Vata, reducing inflammation, improving joint flexibility, and strengthening the musculoskeletal system. Treatment may include anti-inflammatory and strengthening herbal medicines, a diet that supports digestion and reduces toxins, and lifestyle practices that maintain joint mobility. Therapies such as Abhyanga (medicated oil massage) help lubricate and relax the muscles and joints, while Swedana (therapeutic sweating) helps relieve stiffness and improve circulation. Basti (medicated enema therapy) is often recommended to balance Vata and support spinal health. Gentle yoga, stretching exercises, and posture correction practices can also help maintain flexibility and improve quality of life.

The 14 Nights Spondylosis Treatment Program at AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat is intended for individuals experiencing spondylosis and related spinal discomfort, including conditions affecting the cervical or lumbar regions. Care is not standardised, with the centre emphasising that Ayurvedic treatment should be adapted according to individual requirements, constitution and present health condition following consultation. The Program duration supports a structured period of Ayurvedic care aimed at improving spinal wellbeing, functional comfort and overall balance, while encouraging appropriate dietary and lifestyle practices that align with Vata management. The program contributes to a broader preventive approach by promoting awareness of posture, daily routine and individual health needs as part of long-term wellbeing. Bell's Palsy Treatment

Bell’s Palsy is a neurological condition characterized by sudden onset of facial muscle weakness or paralysis, often developing over hours or days. It may affect facial expressions, eye closure, speech, and swallowing on the affected side. Most cases recover fully with proper care, but early intervention is important. Common symptoms include drooping of one side of the face, inability to close the eye, loss of facial expressions, drooling, altered taste, increased sensitivity to sound, and mild pain around the jaw or behind the ear. Risk factors include viral infections (such as herpes simplex), stress, diabetes, hypertension, and immune system disturbances. In Ayurveda, Bell’s Palsy is understood as a Vata Vyadhi affecting Majja Dhatu and Snayu, leading to impaired nerve transmission and muscle dysfunction. Weak tissue strength (Dhatu Kshaya) and accumulation of toxins (Ama) may delay recovery. Ayurvedic management focuses on pacifying Vata, nourishing nerves and muscles, and promoting regeneration of facial nerve function. Brimhana (nourishing) therapy and Rasayana (rejuvenation therapy) support recovery. Vasti (Medicated Enema Therapy) is often recommended for controlling aggravated Vata and supporting nerve function. External therapies include: Abhyanga (medicated oil massage) of the face and neck to improve circulation and reduce stiffness Shirodhara with mild oils to calm the nervous system Facial exercises and gentle physiotherapy to maintain muscle tone Internal herbal support may include Ashwagandha, Bala, Shatavari, Guduchi, Dashamoola, and Tagara, which help in nerve nourishment, reducing inflammation, and promoting strength. Diet should be warm, nourishing, and easy to digest, emphasizing ghee, milk, whole grains, and light meals. Avoid dry, cold, and Vata-aggravating foods. Lifestyle practices include adequate rest, stress management, gentle facial exercises, and protecting the affected eye if eyelid closure is impaired. This holistic Ayurvedic approach helps in speeding recovery, restoring facial symmetry and nerve function, and improving overall quality of life in individuals with Bell’s Palsy.

Treatment For Arthritis

Herbal remedies play a central role in Ayurvedic treatments for arthritis and spondylitis. Medicinal herbs such as turmeric, ginger, boswellia, ashwagandha, and guggulu are renowned for their anti-inflammatory properties and ability to support joint health. These herbs can be consumed orally as powders, capsules, or teas, or applied topically in the form of oils or ointments. Dietary modifications are another cornerstone of Ayurvedic therapy. Emphasizing a diet that is warm, nourishing, and easily digestible, Ayurveda recommends avoiding foods that aggravate the doshas associated with arthritis and spondylitis, such as cold, dry, and processed foods. Including spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric in cooking can also aid digestion and reduce inflammation. In addition to herbal remedies and dietary adjustments, Ayurvedic treatment often incorporates lifestyle modifications and therapeutic practices to promote overall well-being. Gentle exercises like yoga and tai chi can improve flexibility, strengthen muscles, and enhance joint mobility. Ayurvedic therapies such as Abhyanga (oil massage), Swedana (herbal steam therapy), and Basti (medicated enema) may also be recommended to detoxify the body, reduce pain, and restore balance. By addressing the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit, Ayurvedic treatment for arthritis and spondylitis aims to not only alleviate physical discomfort but also to promote holistic healing and improve quality of life. However, it's important to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to receive personalized guidance and ensure safe and effective treatment.

Rooted in the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda, this treatment focuses on pacifying the aggravated Vata dosha, which is often the root cause of arthritic conditions, and eliminating accumulated toxins from the body. The therapy includes a personalised combination of Abhyanga (herbal oil massage), Elakizhi (leaf bundle therapy), Njavarakizhi (rice bundle massage), Vasti (medicated enema), and Pizhichil (oil bath therapy), complemented by internal herbal medications and a customised Ayurvedic diet. Under the expert care of Ayurvedic physicians, each treatment plan is tailored to the guest’s condition, ensuring holistic healing that not only alleviates pain but also rejuvenates the joints and strengthens the entire musculoskeletal system. With its serene ambience and authentic Ayurvedic approach, AyurSoma provides an ideal environment for healing, balance, and long-term joint wellness.

14 Nights Allergies Treatment Program

The 14 Nights Allergies Treatment Program at AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat is intended for guests seeking Ayurvedic care for allergic reactions affecting the respiratory system or skin. The centre explains allergies through the body’s ability to eliminate allergens and describes allergic conditions according to Vata, Pitta and Kapha types. Its Ayurvedic approach associates different manifestations with different Doshas and recognises that dietary requirements should be adjusted according to the prevailing Dosha pattern. Vata-type allergies may include wheezing, runny nose, sneezing and dry cough; Pitta-type reactions can involve hives, rashes and allergic dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis; while Kapha-type manifestations include mucous-membrane irritation, colds, repeated sinus infections and asthma. The programme therefore considers the nature of the allergic response rather than treating all allergies as identical. The program seeks to reduce the intensity of allergic reactions and address the toxin build-up described in the centre’s Ayurvedic explanation, while supporting longer-term balance through appropriate dietary practices. AyurSoma’s wider treatment philosophy emphasises individualised care, with dietary and daily practices adapted to the person’s constitution and requirements rather than applying a standard approach to every guest. The Ayurvedic physician determines the appropriate care according to the guest’s Prakriti, current health condition, Dosha pattern and individual therapeutic requirements, allowing the programme to be tailored to the presentation of the allergy. Note: All treatments and program components are personalised following the initial consultation with the retreat's Ayurveda doctor and the guest's health condition. Therapy protocols may vary accordingly.

We spent a delightful week at the beautiful Ayursoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat. We took the Rejuvenation package, which was truly relaxing & rejuvenating! The resort is perfectly located by the beach with a great view. The rooms are large and spacious. The food is exotic & very healthy. The staff, doctors & therapists are very helpful & experienced. We really enjoyed the daily yoga & meditation sessions too, as well as the special Kerala Day celebration with cultural dance performances. We had a very positive experience here, & we recommend it highly to everyone. We will be back soon :)
