This hotel is very nicely located. Right on a magical beach. The sea is wild and invites you to swim. However, good swimming skills are required here. The rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished. The food is very good, but could use some variety. The staff goes out of their way to ensure that you don't miss anything. I was there for 3 weeks and unfortunately I couldn't relax. The internal dispute between the hotel and the beach lounger rental company cost me nerves. I was unnecessarily bothered with their problems. I am also disappointed with the management. We asked for board games. The manager promised us that he would organize this. Every time there was a new excuse. After 2 weeks we gave up.
As far as the treatments are concerned, I had a really good and experienced Ayurveda therapist. Her name is Wasanthi. She knows her craft and is very competent. The treatments themselves have too little variety. After about 1 week the whole thing repeats itself. The Ayurveda doctor is super personable and very competent. She takes time for her guests.
In my opinion, the hotel is not suitable for Ayurveda retreats. There are no showers in the treatment wing. You have to go through the whole hotel, fully oiled or powdered, up to your room and shower there. There's also hardly any room to eat when it's fully booked. In general there is not enough space. The yoga and meditation would need a separate room and should not take place in the lobby. There are still renovations going on here and there and there is a lack of basic facilities. For example, parasols for the balconies that are in full sun during the day.
It is definitely too expensive for the service provided. Unfortunately, price/performance is not right here.
Be honest with your customers
I'm here at Taprana for three weeks in room number 3 and am being treated like a queen. I would especially like to mention my incredible therapist, Vasanthi (and, of course, the entire team of therapists).
Beautiful hotel with lovely and attentive staff. Beach view from our bedroom was so lovely! Rooms are clean and spacious. Wellness treatments are available at the hotel. I
tried the full body oil massage and it was very relaxing! Food was also very delicious and healthy
Our stay at the Taprana was lovely. The staff was great. All were very kind, attentive and always ready to help. So they all made the stay as memorable and relaxing as it was.
The day started with very good Hatha Yoga lead by Denuwan who emphasized breathing exercises, stretching and balancing poses. After that there was a very good breakfast. We loved the porridge. But in general: The kitchen was always and throughout every meal very good.
After breakfast we had our treatments with Vasanthi and Sajith. Both were very skilled and on top able to create an atmosphere where we would feel comfortable and were able to relax immediately.
In the late afternoon there was again Yoga (sometimes it was Hatha and sometimes Yin Yoga) with the very kind and invested Sameera who for us was the good soul (of course amongst all the good souls working and visiting there) of the house.
So, we can totally recommend a stay at Taprana to break out of ones routines and enter a whole different and relaxing world.
