Perumbayil Ayurvedamana / 21 Nights Panchakarma Program
Premium Resort
India / Kerala / Thrissur

After the fall of the Mahodayapuram Cheras in the 12th century, the Malabar Coast underwent a transformative period. It splintered into numerous feudal city-states known as nads (swaroopams), each governed by Naduvazhis. The term "Moopil Nair" refers to the Nair Naduvazhis (rulers of nads or city-states) and Desavazhis (rulers of desams) in the small feudal kingdoms along the Malabar Coast, present-day Kerala, South India. Moopil Nairs belonged to the Samanthan Nair subcaste of the Nair caste within the Hindu Caste system.

These nads were further divided into desams, each ruled by Desavazhis. The Perumbayil Tharavadu served as the Desavazhis of Paluvai desam.

The Perumbayil family, an ancient and aristocratic Nair/Menon lineage in the Guruvayoor area, boasts a rich history. Noteworthy among them is the late Ashtavaidyan Vaidyamadam Valiya Narayanan Nampoothiri (1912-1988), considered a legendary figure in Ayurvedic medicine. His extensive knowledge encompassed Sanskrit, Vedas, mythology, ancient Indian culture, and classical arts, earning him the reputation of a living encyclopedia.

The royal dynasties of the Moopil Nairs included the Valluvakkonathiris, who ruled Valluvanad based on present-day Angadippuram. Other significant dynasties were the Kavalappara Moopil Nair (of Kavalappara Swaroopam), Kuthiravattathu Moopil Nair (near Kozhikode, commanding Samoothiri of Calicut's cavalry forces), Mannarkad Moopil Nayar (ruling the area in and around Attappady), and Kuppathode Moopil Nair (ruling Pulpally).

The Ayurvedamana approach, rooted in the Ashtavaidya and Guruparampara traditions, is reflected in the lineage of Ashta Vidya practitioners. Notable figures in this lineage include Ashta Vidyan Vaidya madom Valya Narayanan Nampoothiri, Ashta Vidyan Vidaya madom Brahmadathan Nampoothiri, Ashta Vidyan Vaidya madom Doctor Rishikumaran Nampoothiri, and Ashta Vidyan Vaidya madom Doctor Rajeev Nampoothiri.

Ashta Vidyan Vaidya madom Valiya Narayanan Nampoothiri, the father of the chief physician and grandfather of the consultant physician, was a legendary figure known for his efficiency in Ayurvedic medicine. His son, Ashta Vidyan Vidaya madom Brahmadathan Nampoothiri, played a prominent role in Ayurveda education and research, eventually retiring as the Director of Ayurveda, Government of Kerala.

Ashta Vidyan Vaidya madom Doctor Rishikumaran Nampoothiri, the chief physician, received training under his legendary father and later served in the Ayurveda Department, Government of Kerala, retiring as District Medical Officer after 37 years of distinguished service. He holds the honorary title of VAIDYASHASTRA MAHODADHI for his outstanding contributions to Ayurveda.

The last Kutipraveshikam in the history of Ayurveda was performed by Ashta Vidyan Vaidya madom Doctor Rishikumaran Nampoothiri around fifty years ago. Supervised by his father and assisted by his son, he performed Kutipraveshikam for his friend and close companion, the late Poomully Vasudevan Namboodiripad. His intense passion for dealing with various cases and his willingness to tackle complicated cases garnered him immense respect. The title of VAIDYASHASTRA MAHODADHI was conferred upon him by Sree Sree Kanchikamakoti Matathipathi Sree Jayendra Saraswathi Swamikal.

Prof. V Vasu Devan, the advisor and mentor, is a versatile scholar with extensive knowledge in Sanskrit literature, logic, philosophy, Ayurveda, Yoga, and the martial art of Kerala – Kalaripayattu. Having learned under his Guru, Brahmasree Poomulli Neelakantan Nampoothiripad, for over two decades, Prof. V Vasu Devan continues to contribute to Ayurveda, Yoga, and Indian philosophy through national and international training programs.

The "Ayurvedamana Way" of treatment, practiced at Perumbayil Ayurvedamana, is a distinctive blend of Ayurveda, Kalari (martial art), and Marma (pressure points), setting it apart from other Ayurvedic hospitals.

More about Perumbayil Ayurvedamana

Vata, the force behind essential bodily motion, plays a crucial role in overall health, reaching its peak in fall and during seasonal transitions. Careful diet and lifestyle management become essential during these times to ground the swift energy in Vata individuals, known for quick minds, flexibility, and creativity. When unbalanced, individuals with a Vata constitution may experience feelings of instability, anxiety, and fatigue. Vata types are susceptible to diseases related to the air element, such as emphysema and arthritis.

Attributes of dryness, lightness, coldness, roughness, subtlety, mobility, and clarity define Vata. An excess of these qualities can lead to an imbalance. Balancing Vata involves incorporating warm, moist, slightly oily, and heavy foods into one's diet. Consistent sleep by 10 pm, warm meals, and oil massages contribute to Vata equilibrium.

Pitta, characterized by qualities reminiscent of fire, exhibits warmth, penetration, sharpness, and agitation. Individuals with a Pitta constitution, medium-built with ruddy skin, are prone to inflammation and irritability when imbalanced. Balanced by sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes, a diet emphasizing coolness while avoiding sour, salty, and pungent foods benefits Pitta individuals.

Kapha, defined by strength, endurance, and stability, tends to gain weight easily. Balanced by bitter, astringent, and pungent tastes, Kapha individuals benefit from a diet that limits dairy and fats. Emphasizing leafy greens and avoiding sweet and sour fruits contributes to Kapha balance. Roasted grains, dry-cooked foods, and minimal animal products suit Kapha, along with avoiding sweets and using raw honey as a sweetener.

These dietary guidelines not only help balance each dosha but also ensure both physical and mental well-being.

The establishment features an open kitchen, allowing guests to visit at any time, using organically grown vegetables. Manned by ladies from the nearby area, the spacious dining area caters to individual diet requirements.

The use of Kansa Vataki Plates and Bowls in both places adds medicinal value. The Kansa Vataki combines three therapeutic metals:

- Copper: Relieves Pain, Inflammation, and Prevents Arthritis
- Zinc: Boosts the Immune System, Aids Digestion, and is Beneficial for Diabetes
- Tin: Relieves Headaches and Insomnia

"Ayurveda," acknowledged as the world's oldest and most comprehensive medical system, embodies the ancient science of life.

Sustaining a harmonious equilibrium of doshas, agni (digestive fire), dhatus (tissues), proper functioning of mala (waste products), a joyous state of atman (soul), sensory organs, and mind delineates the essence of a healthy life.

Ayurvedic treatments intricately focus on evaluating dosha prakriti, the inherent states of individuals. This prakriti encompasses an individual's physical constitution, susceptibility to diseases, mental disposition, and lifestyle, harmonized with the elemental composition of the universe.

Fundamental concepts in Ayurveda include the Saptha Dhathus (seven bodily tissues) like Rasa, Raktha, Mamsa, Meda, Asthi, Majja & Shukra Dhathus, Srotas (Channels), Ama (improperly digested toxins and filthy matter), and the trinity of life - body, mind, and spiritual awareness.

In the realm of Ayurveda, the body, mind, and soul are perceived as an integrated unit for diagnosis. The initial step involves determining an individual's constitution through unique procedures like DARSANA, SPARSANA & PRASHNA.

Diseases may manifest diversely in individuals due to constitutional variances. This individualized approach guides treatments, ensuring tailor-made solutions for similar illnesses. This personalized treatment aligns with the core essence of the Ayurvedic system.

Ayurvedic treatments categorically fall into two branches - SHODHANA and SHAMANA.

SHODHANA incorporates the pancha karmas: Vasthi (cleansing enemas), Nasyam (nasal medication), Viraechanam (purgation), Vamanam (emesis), and Raktha moksham (bloodletting). These necessitate preliminary Ayurvedic practices of oleation and sweating. Kerala specialties like Dhara, Pizichil, Navarakizhi, Ela kizhi, Siro vasthi, Thalapothichil prove remarkably effective for various diseases, including Motor Neuron diseases, Arthritis, skin diseases, heart diseases, peptic ulcers, Asthma, Peripheral vascular diseases, and Gynecological disorders.

Prevention is paramount in Ayurveda, emphasizing health maintenance through balanced living, right thinking, dietary choices, lifestyle, and herbal use. Ayurvedic wisdom empowers individuals to comprehend and establish balance in body, mind, and consciousness based on their unique constitution.

Similar to a fingerprint, each person possesses a distinctive energy pattern — an individual blend of physical, mental, and emotional characteristics — determining their constitution from conception throughout life.

Various internal and external factors, including emotional states, diet, seasons, physical trauma, work, and family relationships, can disrupt this balance. Understanding these factors enables individuals to take corrective actions, nullify or minimize their effects, and eliminate causes of imbalance to restore their original constitution. Balance signifies health, while imbalance denotes disorder. Ayurveda's profound knowledge of disorder's nature and structure allows the re-establishment of order within the body.

Private Herbal Garden Ayurveda mana is surrounded by rich vegetation of herbs and medicinal plants that generate positive energy in the body and mind. Some of the herbs in the surroundings include Aambal, Arayaal, Asoka, Avanekku, Ayamodakam, Brahmi, Chempakam, Chemparuthi, Cherupunna, Inchi, Jaathi, etc.,

Yoga Room Yoga is both a science and a method of achieving spiritual harmony through mind and body control. Derived from the Sanskrit word Yug, meaning "to join" or "to unite," Yoga indicates the total integration of the individual soul with the supreme soul to obtain relief from pain and suffering. The Asanas (Yogic postures) and Pranayama (breath control) not only help achieve perfect health but also foster a calm and serene mind. The Asanas induce a sense of physical and mental relaxation, rehabilitating various vital organs.

The practice of Asanas should ideally be followed by Pranayama, where the diaphragm, rather than the upper chest wall, is moving. Correct practice of Pranayama under the supervision of a competent Yoga teacher can significantly reduce the incidence of Asthma, Bronchitis, Sinus problems, and Colds.

Treatment Rooms Six spacious treatment/massage rooms are separate for ladies and gents, attached with bathrooms, toilet, and a steam bath.

Pharmacy and Medicine Manufacturing A fully stocked pharmacy and medicine preparing room for individual medicine preparation.
