Chyavana Ayurveda Hospital is an Ayurvedic treatment centre at Thekkumthara, near Kalpetta in Wayanad, Kerala. Set among coffee and rubber plantations, it combines personalised Ayurvedic care with residential accommodation and a quiet rural atmosphere. Consultations, prescribed therapies, South Indian meals and time for rest form the main elements of a stay.

The hospital's clinical focus spans musculoskeletal concerns, obesity and weight management, women's health and neurological conditions. General wellness care includes rejuvenation and detoxification therapies. Individual assessment guides the treatment plan, with attention to health history, lifestyle and the person's wellness goals.

Design and Landscape

The setting reflects Wayanad's agricultural landscape, with coffee and rubber plantations surrounding the hospital. Located near Thethana Bhagavathy Temple in Thekkumthara, the property has a quiet countryside character. Its green surroundings provide a setting for rest between consultations and therapies, while the garden views from Standard Rooms keep the landscape close to the residential experience.

The atmosphere is suited to a stay organised around treatment and quieter daily routines. Accommodation and clinical care are brought together within this rural setting, giving guests a consistent base for meals, prescribed therapies and rest.

Founders and Ayurvedic Heritage

Ayurveda Philosophy and Approach

The hospital's approach is rooted in Ayurveda's understanding of individual constitution and patterns of imbalance. Physical concerns are considered alongside health history, lifestyle and overall wellbeing. Traditional therapies are combined with individual clinical assessment, allowing the treatment plan to reflect the person and the condition being addressed.

Prakriti, the individual's constitution, and Vikriti, the current pattern of imbalance, help structure this assessment. The emphasis is on understanding each person's needs and selecting a suitable combination of care. Treatment planning remains individual, with regular monitoring and adjustments forming part of the process.

Personalised Treatment Planning

Care begins with a consultation covering medical history, lifestyle and wellness goals. The assessment considers Prakriti and Vikriti as part of the Ayurvedic understanding of the individual. These findings guide the choice of therapies and the preparation of a personalised treatment protocol.

The plan can draw on the hospital's oil therapies, poultice treatments, localised applications and Panchakarma procedures, according to the doctor's assessment. Regular monitoring provides opportunities to review the response to care and make adjustments. Dietary requirements also receive individual attention through changes to the side dishes served with the common main meals.

Treatment Programs

The hospital's main areas of focus include obesity, frozen shoulder or periarthritis of the shoulder, osteoarthritis of the knee, joint pain and ligament injuries. Women's health concerns include PCOD and dysmenorrhoea. It also attends to people with Parkinson's disease, stroke and varicose veins. These areas of care sit alongside general wellness programs involving rejuvenation and detoxification therapies. Treatment selection depends on the doctor's assessment of the individual's condition and requirements.

The therapy range includes Abhyanga, a medicated oil massage, and Shirodhara. Pizhichil uses the application of warm oil, while Njavarakizhi involves rice boluses and Elakizhi uses herbal leaf pouches. Udwarthanam is a herbal powder massage. These different methods allow the clinical team to select from a range of traditional Ayurvedic applications.

Localised oil therapies include Kativasthi for the lower back, Greeva Vasti for the neck and Janu Vasti for the knee. The Panchakarma range includes Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshanam. Each procedure forms part of an individually prescribed plan, with the combination of therapies determined through consultation and clinical review.

Doctors and Wellness Experts

The medical team includes Dr Anu Viswanath, BAMS, and Prof. Dr Adarsh E.K., BAMS, MD (Ayu), FSR. Dr Adarsh's areas of practice include Panchakarma and sports rehabilitation, complementing the hospital's focus on individual Ayurvedic care and musculoskeletal concerns.

The clinical process centres on consultation, an understanding of health history and lifestyle, and the development of a personalised treatment plan. Regular monitoring and treatment adjustments support continuity throughout care. The medical team's assessment guides the therapies chosen for each guest, including those attending for general wellness and rejuvenation.

Post Treatment Care

Ongoing monitoring, treatment adjustments and longer-term wellness support form part of the hospital's approach. Continuity of care is linked to the individual's treatment plan, with attention to health goals and the response to prescribed therapies. This follow-through supports the hospital's wider emphasis on personalised care and sustained attention to wellbeing.

Accommodation

Standard Room accommodation is available for residential guests, with attached bathrooms and full garden views. The room category measures 200 square feet and accommodates up to two guests. Four Standard Rooms are listed, giving the residential offering a compact scale.

The accommodation is simple and functional, with features including tiled roofing, chairs and basic bedding. It provides a base for guests whose time at the hospital is centred on consultations, prescribed therapies, meals and rest. The garden outlook connects the stay with the surrounding green setting.

Diet and Dining

South Indian dishes form the main part of dining at Chyavana Ayurveda Hospital. Meals are prepared commonly and served through table service. The main dishes are common to guests, while side dishes vary according to each person's health condition and dietary requirements.

This combines a shared meal service with individual adjustments to the accompaniments. Guests following different treatment plans may therefore receive different side dishes alongside the common main dishes. The dietary arrangements reflect the hospital's approach to individual care, with attention to what is served to each person within the daily meal routine.

Wellness Activities

Yoga classes complement the hospital's Ayurvedic services and bring an additional wellness activity into the stay. Alongside consultations and prescribed treatments, the quiet plantation environment offers a restful setting for the intervals between scheduled care. Guests can experience Wayanad's countryside atmosphere while keeping the focus of their visit on treatment, meals and time for rest.

Facilities and Services

The hospital brings together Ayurvedic consultations, therapy services, residential accommodation and dining at its Thekkumthara location. The clinical offering includes personalised treatment planning, regular monitoring and a range of traditional Ayurvedic procedures. Yoga classes complement these services.

Chyavana Ayurveda Hospital holds NABH accreditation under certificate AH-2025-0346, with Panchakarma within its accredited scope of services. For residential guests, Standard Rooms with attached bathrooms and garden views provide accommodation alongside the hospital's treatment and meal arrangements.

Sustainability and Guest Guidelines

Alcohol, smoking and tobacco are prohibited across the hospital premises and during the Ayurveda program. The guest routine is centred on prescribed care, meals and rest, within the hospital's quiet rural surroundings.

Guest Experience and Stay Approach

A stay at Chyavana is shaped by the combination of individual medical attention and a small residential hospital setting. Consultations, prescribed therapies, South Indian meals and time for rest form the daily focus. The coffee and rubber plantations around the property contribute to its countryside atmosphere.

The experience is suited to guests seeking a visit centred on Ayurvedic care, whether their focus is a particular health concern or general wellness. Treatment is selected through clinical assessment, while the dining service combines common main dishes with side dishes adjusted to individual health needs. Standard Room accommodation keeps the stay simple and connected to the treatment routine.
