The Hospital occupies a beachside coastal setting at Kothakulam Beach in Valapad.
The Hospital is a project of Ahalia International Foundation and forms part of the wider Ahalia healthcare network. The Ahalia Group was founded by Dr. V. S. Gopal, with the group’s history beginning at a clinic in Abu Dhabi in 1984.
The Hospital follows traditional Ayurveda, with personalised care delivered by Ayurvedic practitioners and Panchakarma therapists. Its Ayurveda philosophy encompasses purification and pacification therapies, a suitable dietary regimen and attention to mental wellbeing.
Treatment plans are tailored to individual needs, including those of people seeking care for chronic pain, stress, illness or general wellbeing. Individual constitution, symptoms and practitioner guidance can determine treatment duration and the herbal preparations used.
Personalisation also extends to individual treatments. Herbal ingredients for Thalapothichil are selected according to the individual’s Ayurvedic constitution, while the herbs and technique used for Kizhi vary with individual needs.
The Body Purification Package is a Panchakarma-oriented Program that may include Snehana oil applications, Swedana herbal steam baths, Shirodhara and Pizhichil. Its suggested structure is a course of 14–21 days, with 90–120 minutes of treatment daily.
The Rejuvenation Package focuses on relaxation and revitalisation. It includes Abhyanga body massage, Shirodhara, medicated steam baths, herbal medicine and face masks. Its recommended structure is a course of at least 14 days, with 90–120 minutes of treatment daily.
The Stress Management Package is intended for people experiencing stress or burnout. It combines Shirodhara, herbal steam baths, yoga and meditation. Its suggested structure is a course of 7–14 days, with 180–240 minutes of treatment daily.
The broader care portfolio includes geriatric care, fitness, special packages for IT professionals, beauty care, slimming, and antenatal and postnatal care.
The Hospital’s individual treatment portfolio includes Vasti, a medicated-enema procedure. Niruha uses decoctions, while Anuvasana uses oils or ghee. Other individual procedures include Vamana, involving induced emesis; Virechana, involving medicinal purgation; and Nasyam, involving nasal administration.
Abhyangam uses herbal oil for body massage, while Udvardhanam uses herbal powder. Pizhichil combines warm herbal oil pouring and massage. Dhanyamla Dhara involves pouring warm herbal liquid over the body or selected areas.
Sirodhara, also called Shirodhara, involves pouring warm herbal oil or herbal milk over the forehead. Shirovasti retains herbal oil on the scalp. Thalam applies an oil-and-powder preparation to the head area, and Thalapothichil applies herbal paste to the head. Lepanam uses herbal paste on a local area.
Urovasthi retains warm herbal oil over the chest, while Kathivasti retains it over the lower back. Snehapanam involves oral medicinal oil or ghee. Dining at Ahalia Ayurvedic Hospital Valapad is simple, homely and aligned with the centre’s Ayurvedic healing environment. The hospital has a dedicated kitchen and restaurant, where meals are freshly prepared in a traditional Kerala style and served at the table. Food is planned to be wholesome, familiar and suitable for guests staying for treatment, with an emphasis on regular, balanced vegetarian meals rather than rich or heavy dining.
Breakfast typically includes Kerala favourites such as puttu, idli and dosa, while lunch is served in a homely Kerala style with items such as rice, chapathi, sambar, aviyal and thoran. Dinner may include lighter options such as dosa, appam and other vegetarian dishes, depending on the day’s menu. As the centre follows a strictly vegetarian food policy, non-vegetarian food is not allowed on the premises, helping maintain a disciplined dietary setting that supports Ayurvedic care and recovery.
Leisure at Ahalia Ayurvedic Hospital Valapad is centred on quiet rest, gentle recovery and the calm rhythm of a treatment-focused stay. As the property functions as an Ayurvedic hospital, leisure is best understood as a supportive part of healing rather than a resort-style activity programme. Guests can spend their free time relaxing within the hospital environment, following their physician’s guidance, maintaining a slower daily routine and allowing enough rest between consultations, therapies, meals and recovery periods.
The atmosphere is suited to guests who prefer a simple, peaceful setting during Ayurvedic care. Leisure time may include light personal activities such as reading, resting, mindful reflection or spending unhurried time in the available common areas, depending on individual health condition and treatment advice. The overall experience supports comfort, discipline and recuperation, helping guests stay focused on their wellbeing while receiving personalised Ayurvedic medical care.
Ayurveda at Ahalia Ayurvedic Hospital Valapad is delivered in a structured hospital setting, where traditional Ayurvedic knowledge is combined with clinical assessment and personalised care. The approach is centred on understanding each guest’s health condition, body constitution, current imbalance, strength, age and treatment goals before deciding the most suitable course of care. Rather than offering a general wellness routine, the hospital focuses on condition-based Ayurvedic management, with treatments guided by qualified Ayurvedic physicians.
The Ayurvedic system followed here gives importance to restoring balance, improving functional wellbeing and supporting the body’s natural recovery process. Care may involve consultation, diagnosis, dietary guidance, lifestyle advice and physician-led treatment planning according to the guest’s individual needs. The hospital environment is especially suited to guests seeking professional Ayurvedic support for ongoing health concerns, recovery, pain management, mobility issues or preventive wellness. Each care plan is adapted after medical evaluation, helping ensure that Ayurveda is applied in a thoughtful, disciplined and guest-specific manner.
The pharmaceutical division ensures the availability of essential medical supplies, cosmetics, and childcare products, strictly adhering to Ministry of Health regulations. The group’s commitment to quality has been recognized through ISO 9001, JCI, and CAP accreditations, as well as the prestigious Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Model award.
The 21 Nights Arthritis Treatment Program at Ahalia Ayurvedic Hospital Valapad provides clinically guided Ayurvedic support for people experiencing arthritis, rheumatic complaints, joint pain, swelling and reduced mobility. Within its Ayurvedic framework, arthritis and rheumatism are associated particularly with Vata-related disorders, making the restoration of functional balance central to care. Its clinical purpose is to respond to each guest’s presentation while supporting comfort and movement through an individualised approach to joint disease.
Therapeutic objectives include easing pain and inflammation, improving mobility, supporting muscular strength and promoting greater ease in everyday activity. Longer-term care seeks to maintain joint function and general wellbeing, with outcomes varying according to the condition and individual response. Following a comprehensive consultation and clinical assessment, the Ayurvedic physician formulates a personalised plan based on the guest’s Prakriti (body constitution), Vikriti (current imbalance), health condition, age, strength and therapeutic goals, ensuring that care reflects both clinical needs and personal capacity.
Note:
All treatments and program components are personalised following the initial consultation with the retreat's Ayurveda doctor and the guest's health condition. Therapy protocols may vary accordingly.
